View Full Version : DVD Chapters and Widescreen TV Questions

I have been using DVD2SVCD for awhile. I recently upgraded from one of the 1.03 builds to 1.04 build 2 and the DVD chapters were working Great. I loved it.

I then decided to try one of the newer builds since subtitles were supposed to have better support and I could never get them working correctly. No matter which option I used,I could not get selectable subtitles.. only permanent ones.

So anyways, I ended up redoing my whole machine, I put 1.04 Build 2 back on and now for the life of me, I can not get DVD chapters to work anymore. I have them selected along with VCDXBuild and my bin/cue files even say that they have 20 or so cuepoints, but they just do not work when I burn the movie.

Help with that is appreciated

Also, we are very close to buying a Widescreen HDTV. So my question is, will widescreen SVCDs (those ripped from widescreen DVDs) show as widescreen (filling up the TV) or are they really in 4:3 mode with encoded black bars? Anyone else have a Widescreen TV that can tell me from experience how it will work out?

Thanks in advance

Sorry for the widescreen question.. I just saw the thread on it so I will go ask any questions I have over there

As for the Subs and DVD chapters.. I could still use some help with those if you know some answers

Thanks

Ok, the thread is closed so I guess I will not continue my questions there :)

Has anyone used the Zoom feature on their DVD player to expand a 16:9 movie on their Widescreen TV to get rid of the bars? Just wondering what that quality would be like

For the directly above question:
A:Not so good. 4:3 encoding, on the other hand, is just GREAT on my 32" Sony

For the chapters Q:
If the log file says:
- No. of chapters to create: 1
Check your dvd2svcd chapters File.ini
If it says only [CHAPTERS], add them manually from the vts_01_INFO.txt ( I use SmartRipper. I don't know what other rippers produce.), and do crash recovery from SVCD authoring.

If the log says: (example)
- No. of chapters to create: 18
but you still don't have chapters, \
check the dvd2svcd chapters File.ini
It should say something like:

[CHAPTERS]
Chapter0001=0
Chapter0002=4804
Chapter0003=6464
Chapter0004=7780
Chapter0005=9001
Chapter0006=11269
Chapter0007=13660
Chapter0008=15664
....
If not, again, add them manually.
In either case,
do a crash recovery from SVCD Authoring.

If you still do not have chapters, I give up! :)

Many people will shy away from posts asking about old versions. It is an unwritten policy that there is no support on old versions.
Try the new 1.05 build 4 version and if that gives you problems then ask. It's not that we don't want to help it's more that we can't. The author and most of the others do not have the time or remember all the individual problems on each version to keep supporting all the old versions.

Make sure to download the bundle, many programs have changed over the versions.
