Can't import .avi files with Avid Xpress Pro?

Hi, We're currently testing Avid Xpress Pro, as I understood it is capable of video editting, somewhat like Premiere / AfterEffects. But I can't get any .avi file to open in Xpress Pro: I tried importing all kinds of different .avi files, even uncompressed ones (i.e. it's definitely not a codec issue) but Xpress Pro keeps saying "The format of test.avi is not supported for import".

Am I doing something wrong? I'm supposed to click File -> Import, right? (found no other option that allowed me to open avi files)

Or is Avid Xpress Pro only supposed to work with other kind of video sources, like DVD's or VOB files?
