View Full Version : Title menu clip is not played correctly - why?

Hallo, using DVDlaPro (latest 2.x or latest 1.x, doesn't matter)
I would like to show a little intro clip when "first play" or
"title button" occur, then show a VTS menu and link to one movie
from there. So this is a very simple scenario.

The intro clip is played perfectly at first play. However when
the root menu is visible and from there I select "title menu"
the intro (10 seconds) shows up for a few milliseconds only,
then the root menu is shown again. Normally the whole clip
should play, and then the root menu should show again.

This strange effect does not happen in Nero Showtime 6, WinDVD
(any version), PowerDVD 5 and 6, but it happens in PowerDVD 7,
at least in version 7.0.2414.0 and 7.3.2911.0. And when debugging
it in DVDRemakePro 3.6.1. the debugger shows an "unknown error"
in this situation.

Once more I'd like to mention that the error only happens, when
the title menu is choosen from the root menu. If the title menu
is choosen from the main movie all goes well.

Could anybody tell what's going wrong? To show you what I mean
I put a demo project (17 MB) to
http://home.arcor.de/kotyczka/download/Dummy.zip

And one more thing. The stange effect happens, no matter where
the intro clip is placed. I put it into the Title domain, into
VTS1 and a separate VTS2. Same odd behaviour everywhere.

I would be very glad if anyone could enlighten me what's going on.

After much trying I found a solution. However I still do
not unstand exactly, what PowerDVD 7 is doing wrong.

If I link the title menu to some intro clip (and link from
there to the root menu, but that shouldn't matter), then,
if I call the title menu from the root menu in PowerDVD 7,
the clip is stopped by PowerDVD after a very short time.
Moreover, it does not matter, where the intro is placed
(title domain, VTS menu, VTS movie, another VTS, ...).

The odd effect vanishes, if I add an audio or a movie file
to the root menu, then everything plays fine. It also
disappears with a still root menu, if the root menu contains
more than one cell. In that case to odd effect only happens,
if the title menu is called from the last cell of the root
menu. For the other cells it works fine. So this will be
my work around: I just add a dummy cell to the root menu.
The only thing I still have to decide is how I guide the
user back to the previous cell if he steps into the dummy
cell by accidental pressing the "next chapter" button in
the root menu:
- last cell with cell command
- last cell with timeout, jumping back in the post commands
- last cell black with invisible button over the whole screen
- last cell with normal menu button back to main menu (prev. cell)

What I am still interested in: Is there someone knowing the deep
details of DVD who could explain me, what PowerDVD 7 might do
wrong?
