First, my computer specs:

PIII 733 w/ VIA Appollo 133A chipset
448 MB RAM
80 GB WD 7200rpm w/ 50% free space
Windows XP Pro

I'm converting Pearl Harbor DVD to SVCD, approximately a 3hr movie (credits removed), and settings are for 4-pass VBR with an image quality of 15. I started DVD2SVCD at about 4:30am today and now it's 1:30pm so it's been going 9 hours. When I look at the progress of CCE now I see that the speed is around .5, elapsed time is 01:45:00 and time remaining is 22:03:00. So I have 22 hours left just for this pass! Now I'm not sure but I think it's on the 2nd pass... here's what it says in the log:

Executing Cinema Craft Encoder
Transcoding has begun.
CCE vaf file: 100
Transcoding has begun.
CCE mpv file: 7%

So assuming that each pass will take this long, I guess the whole process is going to take a few days! Am I looking at this the right way? Is this time remaining accurate, and is it the time remaining for just one of the passes or all 4 passes? I'm confused because I've used DVD2SVCD a couple times before and remember it taking 16-24 hrs at most, although it's been a while since I made a SVCD. Is there something wrong here? Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

yep that's correct it should take that long. 22 hours left is for all the passes not just a pass though. So be patient. Next time try 3pass for a long movie like that if you want.

Hi,

yes you are on the right way.

Your speed is ,5 that means for every pass you will need 6h 4 times is 24h, so it is all ok.

Quite normal you should reduce your passes to 3, the results are very good. I always expect 5 x <time of the dvd> / speed is the time for the complete transforming of the dvd.

Rgds.
