Are there any programs out there that will perhaps split a video into individual frames that you can then look through in still form. That question was probably a bit confusing but I'd like to be able to see perhaps a side by side listing of small thumbnails of each frame (and the frame length I guess would be determined by the program) much in the same way that you see the frames in windows movie maker, or final cut pro. Is that even possible?

You mean like a contact sheet (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/57/Contact_sheet.png)?
Try the "File | Save Thumbnails..." function of Media Player Classic:

Yup, that would be it. Thanks alot.
Question though, what do I do about the error message "GetCurrentImage failed, hr = 8000ffff"?
EDIT: Downloaded the new version in your link and it works fine but it seems to just be an image. Is there a program that allows realtime editing of an mpeg. so that I can actually see the frames and perhaps extract them to create a separate video. Or would I just need to use a splitting program?
EDIT 2: That aforementioned error message is back again and it won't work for any videos now for some reason.

Try switching to another renderer (VMR7, VMR9, etc).
As far as realtime editing goes, maybe you could give AviDemux (http://avidemux.org/) a shot.

How would one switch to another renderer?

View | Options | Playback | Output
I'm able to capture screenshots with all four VMR renderers, so maybe sure your error has to do with your particular system codec configuration (try installing XviD or DivX or ffdshow and I bet the problem will go away).

VideoRedo Plus (shareware) can show video thumbnails, it's the option View > Show Thumbnails. View > Set Thumbnails Parameters - Thumbnail Size: Large, sets the thumbnail height 85px. Right clicking the timeline allows viewing single frames. The trial version is available.

BTW, does anyone know any other free or commercial software with large single frame thumbnails?
The one which comes to mind is Ulead VideoStudio. Something else? Thank you.

It's been half a year, does someone else please know another good frame accurate editor with large single frame thumbnails?
I would also like to know about any such software designed for H.264 encoded files, again with the thumbnails and frame accuracy.
Thank you for your help.
