Crack....um what's a crack?? Seriously though, some things are worth paying for. All your settings are kept (unlike vdub), schedules can wake the PC up from standby and the next updated plug-in will allow you to program SS from a remote PC through the internet. Captures with WDM or vfw drivers DivX4.11, huffyuv, blah blah blah. OK, I still use vdub for critical captures and post proc, but SS is the most comprehensive program I've seen for scheduled capturing. A$ exchange rate is shocking and I still payed for it. It's a keeper and I want support.

Showshifter is just plain crap. Crap interface and crappy looking output. The only good thing is you can capture in near raw and it sometimes even will convert to an AVI when you ask it to. Sometimes..

I use VirtualVDR (together with VirtualDub). By the way: VirtualVDR was formerly known as VirtualVCR.

Back to the topic: As you also can read in the FAQ there is a VDub Sync and Timer Version available at www.virtualdub.net. I always use it for my analogue caps.

yes, I used that one before. But it cannot switch channels - at least not on Win2000 systems. And VirtualVDR supports that with your native TV software, and it can even wake up your PC for capturing by using the BIOS timer (RTC Clock Alarm). The latter must be supported by your hardware, of course.

that sounds quite good, I dont have channel switching supported by my capture card, so I never thought about this, but I think sillkotscha also uses VDub Sync Timer and is able to switch (XP)

...But now I normally capture DVB-T, I can touch my computer again while capturing now :D

I use VirtualDVR (is that what you meant bb?) for my captures with my WinTV. All I need is a IR Repeater to change the channels on my VCR.

I'm confused - the link you posted hasn't been updated since October, however digtv.ws has a newer version of VirtualVCR than there is of DVR.

There used to be two program by the name of Virtual VCR/VirtualVCR. one at
http://www.digtv.ws/ and another at http://www.virtualdvr.org/index_en.htm.

Since Sep 2002, http://www.virtualdvr.org/index_en.htm has rename to VirtualDVR
