Hey,

Recently, in the last year, I have gotten into DVD ripping for my iPod. I use to have an iPod Video with TV out, but I sold it for a 16GB iPod Touch which has a better screen, but crippled TV out.
I have been using Handbrake to rip movies H.264 MPEG-4 at high quality for my iPod Touch. The system I have gotten is very good. I have been using an iMac for the ripping process and using my PC for storing and transfering the movies.
Recently, I upgraded my PC to the point that I plan to use it more then the iMac. I am looking into using Handbrake on my PC, but I started thinking about all this movie ripping.
It takes a long time to do, and I realized that I watch movies on my monitor more then on my iPod Touch. The encoded movies for my iPod Touch look great on my monitor, it is just MPEG-4 doesn't play back nicely on all computers such as my old laptop. Divx/Xvid plays back better on that.
So, I am looking for a great, reccomended ripping/converting solution by the advanced members of this forum. What do you recommend? Do I just do as I have been doing? Or, do I rip to Xvid/Divx and then to MPEG-4 for my iPod (takes more time, so why would you reccomend that)? I am looking for a solution that I don't really have to change over the years. I'd like to keep my personal movie library organized, but at the same time, compatible with a multitude of devices. Also, burning back to CD/DVD and being able to view the movies in non-Divx certified players would be nice. Also, what about storing your movie files? Do you organize them in folders or hard drives a certain way?
So, what should I do?

Thanks!

Automkv is my favorite currently; it even automaticially IVTCs dvd sources and encodes audio and video well.

It can encode to h264, xvid, or VC-1.
