I use my HP dv2500t as my media center PC connected to my set via HDMI
my specs are
T7300, 2.0GHz core 2 duo
2 GB DDR2
128MB Nvidia 8400M GS + HDMI out
Vista Ultimate 32bit
using the latest HP nvidia drivers and coreavc 1.6 pro + Media player classic for decoding
a few month back I never had any problems with playing 1080p H.264 files until now for some reason after around 6-7 mins, my CPU usage goes from 60-70% to 100% and the stuttering starts and pretty becomes unwatchable afterwards
I have painstakingly installed dual booted my laptop with XP+SP2 and I'm experiencing the same problems
I'm perplexed because if my computer was not up to spec it should crap out within the first few seconds. Has anyone experienced this similar problem?
thanks

Not necessarily. If there's a major bitrate spike, that could easily happen, because cpu usage is heavily tied to immediate bitrate in h.264. If the action gets intense around when it starts stuttering, that would explain it. Try to streamline it if you can, by making sure no unnecessary filters are in the graph. If that doesn't help, you might have to re-encode it or use PowerDVD to get hardware acceleration.

thanks for the reply, what are u referring to as unnecessary filters?
I don't have any filters running in MPC and in coreavc I have aggressive deinterlacing turned off and deinterlacing set to hardware...now I not sure if it's really related to sudden spikes in bitrate because the stuttering also happens when no action is going on at all. also if I don't think powerdvd supports mkv?

Hi!
Sounds like your system may be overheating. Perhaps it's time to open it and get rid of all dust bunnies and/or grease that may be present (particularly on fans)...

wow I think you're absolutely right, I never even thought of that
I monitored my temps using speedfan with a 1080p file playing my duo core temps went from 47-50 all the way to around 90-100
my internal temps also approached 100+
this is insane, I'm gonna have to find a laptop cooling solution!
Thanks man!

Thanks man!I suggest you open the bottom and clean it out--that dropped my temperature from 97 to 78. Use a can of air or similar.
