Sorry for the newbie question, I've just started using GK and I think it great.
Am I ok using DivX 6.8 pro with Gordian Knot v0.35?
TIA

GK has never been updated for DivX 6 and doesn’t fully support it.
You can work around this with some manual configuring, though it’s not a perfect solution. In the last step before starting the encoding you have to open the DivX config window for both passes (!) and manually adjust "rate control mode" ("1st pass" and "nth pass") and enter the correct bitrate ("average bitrate" from the "Bitrate" tab). That means you have to know the exact audio sizes before encoding because GK can’t automatically adjust the bitrate (which depends on audio size) for DivX 6. And that in turn means you’re almost forced to do your audio transcoding manually, otherwise your final file size will be somewhat off.
On the whole, GK is not a reasonable frontend for DivX 6. Try StaxRip as an alternative.

Cheers Brother John, I'll give that a try. :)
Would there be any issues with installing DivX6 into a different folder than DivX5, so I can use both codecs at the same time? i.e. DivX5 with GK and DivX6 with StaxRip?

so I can use both codecs at the same time?
I doubt that’s possible. Probably with lots of manual work, registry tweaking and so on. Never tried it. Why would you want to use the ancient DivX 5 if you have the current DivX 6.8?

Ok, thanks. I just wanted to check.

No important reason really, it was just so I could learn more about encoding by using variuos front ends with various codecs & see the difference. I find that's the best way for me to learn new things.
Thanks again!
