I recently reformated my hard drive on my PC and reinstalled windows XP and other software. My PC had just been so slow due to so much stuff my kids do, I just figured it would be easier to just wipe it clean and start over.

I had no problems until I plugged items into a 4 usb 2.0 pc card I installed on my motherboard a year or so ago. When I installed it I dont remember having any disc or anything, I just inserted it and rebooted the pc and all was good. After reformatting yesterday, my pc now recognizes this as a USB 1.0 device and it is slow.

From my description of what happened, does anyone have a clue of what actually happened to this usb device? and more importantly what can I do to fix it?

Thanks

There is more than likely a driver for it.

Windows XP should have built-in USB 2.0 drivers since Service Pack 1 (SP1).
So, if you havn't already, install at least SP1, or better, install SP2 while you're at it (SP3 isn't ready yet, so don't install it!).

If this still doesn't solve your problem, make sure you installed your chipset driver (= motherboard driver). For example, you'll need the Hyperion driver for recent VIA-chipset based motherboards.

You shouldn't have to. Really. That's a very strange situation.

I would do this:

1) Remove the driver, and then the card
2) Install all latest updates, post SP2 - ensure your motherboard drivers are up to date
3) Re-install card, let Windows auto-detect

That should fix it.

After re-installing windows it needed sp2. After doing that and letting windows autoupdate it fixed the problem. I did remove the card while the updates tok place. Pyt the card back in and rebooted and problem was solved.

Thanks for your responses.
