Hello and Happy Holidays,

I am looking for a Dvd Burner and need opinions on which brands
are considered the best and most reliable.

Any Advice is Appreciated. Thanks.

Take a look at http://www.cdfreaks.com/ and http://www.cdrinfo.com/
You'll find a lot of reviews there.

LG drives seem to lead the market at the moment though.
For instance, this one (http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=20843) is excellent.

Assuming you're talking about hardware and not DVD Burning apps, I always stick to NEC drives because there's such a huge amount of custom firmware for them, including RPC1 and RPC2 auto-reset firmwares.

Lite-On is one of the most hacked units out there, I have 2 different ones, and am very happy about both.

Read what this guys say here:

You want to follow the advice in "what's hot"

I've seen a few different burners, and I agree the Liteon's are very good and good value for money. The two brands that are (in general) fairly reliable, burn well, etc etc are Pioneer and Liteon... although thats not to say there aren't good drives in other brands!

I continue to find the Pioneer burners to be excellent, sustained performers...

I have a NEC and 2 BenQ DVD burners, plus Plextor CDRW, Liteon CDRW and Liteon DVD-Rom. I only use the BenQ's now for everything (DVD and CD reading/writing) as the quality is excellent, considerably better than the NEC with any custom firmware (I have tried them all). Sony have used them, plextor have used them, Philips have used them, and Mitsumi, Teac & HP have all used BenQ drives.

Excellent error scanning capabilities to test the burn quality and overspeeding in the basic firmware. RPC1 firmwares based on the BenQ firmwares are available.

Very nice drives and I have had no problems in the 2 years that I have had them.
