View Full Version : Will this work, or am I insane?

Ok...here's the problem.

I want to record onto my computer with component video. However, at the same time, I want to also view the same signal on my TV, preferably with component video, but I will settle with s-video or composite if the solution's cheap.

So here's the solution I have in mind...this would be pretty inexpensive if it works.

Ok, so my gaming system outputs component video. My computer and my TV both input component video. Using 3 RCA Y splitters (1 M to 2 F), I wish to split Y, Pb, and Pr separately, and connect them to my TV and computer. WILL THIS WORK? I am entirely unsure whether or not RCA plugs are specialized, and only specific RCA plugs can be used for specific purposes. Also, will this degrade my signal quality (dramatically)?

Cost: $15-$25

Another solution: Buy a distribution amplifier with component video.

Cost: $50-60

I'd really prefer not to spend more than $30 on the solution. :scared:

Please tell me if you can help with a solution, and PLEASE tell me if you don't get what I'm saying in this post.

EDIT: Just out of curiosity, does anybody know if/where I can find a Y adapter with 1 female to 2 female? All I can find is 2 male to 1 female or 1 male to 2 female.

EDIT2: I just did some testing, using a VCR to replicate the Y-splitter. It will work with Y, but Pb and Pr are messed up...I'm not sure if this will happen when i get the other splitters though...

EDIT3: I just got my Y-adapter cables...It works perfectly! Thanks anyway, guys! Merry Christmas. =)
