Has anybody tried to make SVCD for a standalone DVD player Pioneer DV 525? What about subtitles? Seems to my results that I cannot use I-Author switchable subtitles - what other ways I can use to have permanent subtitles - I mean to mux my own translated subtitles into mpg?
Thanx :)

You can try to use Submux (http://less.filetap.com/submux/).
good luck!

Surely I will - but after muxing what subtitles I will get - switchable or permanent? Have you personally used SubMux for SVCD played at Pioneer 525?

If you use I-Author, Submux or Philips SVCD Toolset for adding a sub then it is/are switchable sub(s).
I haven't tried it on a Pioneer standalone, but on a Philips DVD752 it works. And if Pioneer doesn't play the sub you must use permanent subs. (you can add subs permanent with virtualdub + vobsub)
Good luck!

I have read about Virtualdub and VobSub - can I use them for my own translated subs? (.txt or .srt or .sub format) - So not ripped from .vob
I have no idea what to load to VirtualDub - you cannot load .mpg, only .avi...

No (as far as i have heard, maybe if you look good on sites there is a converter for this) you can only use subs in vobsub made with vobsub himself.
Or maybe there is even another Subtitle plugin for virtualdub that does it, i don't know  .(what i use is good for me)
VirtualDub can only handle MPEG1 stream(and ofcourse AVI) no MPEG2.
good luck!

Take a peek as you haven't already done that on Doom9's guide.
This one
http://www.doom9.org/mpg/tmpg-main.htm
explains for instance putting permanent subs in the stream and frameserve it to TMPEGenc.
For using Vdub take a peek at
http://www.doom9.org/virtualdub_procedures.htm
In the downloadsection are some subconverters.

Thanx JJ for reference - I have paid a look at it earlier - if you read it carefully you will understand that you cannot use VobSub in my case - VobSub is used for riped subs from .vob - in my case I have translated subs in text format (.sub, .srt, .ssa, whatever you want....)
Nevetheless thanx for help

Perhaps you could try some testfiles with OGT subs for testing if your DVD-player support switchable subs.
They are on HVR's VCDImager site.
The links are
SVCD PAL/NTSC versions with CVD subs:
http://www.vcdimager.org/pub/vcdimager/examples/test_svcd/
and a SVCD NTSC version with SVCD subs is here:
http://www.vcdimager.org/pub/vcdimager/.testing/
Have you tried Avery Lee's subtitler it supports SSA scripts
http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_filters
I hope this is more usefull as my last post.
