I created a gui/frontend for FFMpeg that I use to convert "stuff" over to the ipod as I never could find one I liked much.

Since I just crawled out from a cave (no inet since Sept 2006) how does one get a file up here as I have forgotten and the attachment button doesn't seem to work.

Thanks to DarkZell666 here it is. Nothing fancy but it DOES get the job done on the wife's Ipod. :)

ffmpeg crashes when after clicking compress. I'm runing windows Vista.

here is a copy of the command line tab/

D:\Ipodizer_v1.0.0\ffmpeg.exe -y -i "D:\Ipodizer_v1.0.0\Surfs.Up-sample_Xvid(30s).avi" -title "Surfs.Up-sample_Xvid(30s)" -timestamp "2007-11-29 13:25:25" -f mp4 -vcodec libx264 -coder 0 -level 30 -deblockalpha 0 -deblockbeta 0 -rc_eq "blurCplx^(1-qComp)" -flags2 +mixed_refs+wpred -qcomp 0.65 -qmin 1 -qmax 51 -qdiff 4 -keyint_min 25 -sc_threshold 40 -i_qfactor 0.71 -b 960k -bt 960k -bufsize 10000k -maxrate 960k -minrate 960k -me umh -trellis 0 -refs 3 -subq 6 -me_range 16 -g 300 -s 352x240 -sws_flags +lanczos -dct faan -dc 10 -acodec libfaac -profile aac_low -ac 2 -ab 160k "D:\Ipodizer_v1.0.0\Surfs.Up-sample_Xvid(30s).mp4-1"

I do not have Vista yet but the command you typed looks fine to me so can you c&p into your dos prompt (Vista does have a dos prompt still right?) and see what happens?

I wonder if the three programs I use are Vista capable? If it crashed right off it could be ffmpeg but I don't know unless you will kindly test as above and let me know.

Oh, you did unzip/unrar the included applications and told Ipodizer where they reside, right? :)

FFmpeg always crashes on my Vista.

You also forgot to add " " for ffmpeg.exe
example:
D:\New Folder\ffmpeg.exe
but should be like this
"D:\New Folder\ffmpeg.exe"

Oops, I had it in there and removed it on a rewrite but that is easy to add back.

As far as ffmpeg and Vista I figured that was the culprit. :( Is ffmpeg being rewritten for Vista yet or is it a tough noogies situation since it works fine on all other OS revisions that aren't connected with Bill Gates?

Yes I unzip the necessary tools. What i c&p to the forum was from the program. I did not hand code th cl.

Well, if ffmpeg refuses to work in Vista I can't fix that. :( After reading up on Vista I think I will stay completely away from it as I originally intended. Seems it is a resource hog, requires me to repurchase most of the items I have so the expense vs the net gain of having Vista is too great.

Doesn't seem as complete to me and it is for pay.

Pay products to do what can already be done for free really makes me twitch in my seat and is why I made this gui so I could stick it to the man. Too bad Bill Gates decided that Vista will break so much (software AND hardware) that is out there. *shrug*

Thing is the gui is written in the portable wxWidgets and GCC so compiling/recompiling it for other "more sane" OSes out there shouldn't be that big of a problem.

In fact, Celtic-Druid's ffmpeg builds crash on my win xp pro sp2 when I choose libx264 as an encoder too. I'm on an Intel C2D E6420.

I have a gut feeling this is the same problem we encountered in this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=129123)with celtic-druid's mencoder builds also crashing while using x264. This seems to be due to the way he compiles his binaries They work correctly on P4 or any AMD cpu apparently though ...

Find an option for disabling asm optimisations in ffmpeg (equivalent to the "noasm" x264 option in mencoder) and try adding it to your command line, or try the ffmpeg build from there : http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php (the mplayer builds from netfarm don't crash on C2D, so I'd suppose the ffmpeg builds are ok too :D)

Actually Tayoi's post is blatant spam if you ask me, I wonder why spammers are so tard ...

Yep, spam.

Anyways, I am using an AMD so that might be it but I don't think there are any "noasm" type commands or at least I never ran over them in all of the docs I have.

I know x264 and xvid both work for me but again I am using an AMD with XP SP2 (after spending an hour with Vista last night I found out my PC will not even allow me to install it due to NFORCE2 and Sil3112 raid setup so I guess I am stuck with XP for a while longer).

Would you please download the ffmpeg from that site and try it with my gui and let me know if it crashes on you? basically install all but the ffmpeg I included.

Alright then that fixes that and how weird. :/ I will release 1.0.1 with a few minor fixes tonight.

Thanks all for the help.
