View Full Version : Sony Vegas "Capture using a timer" question

I use Sony Vegas v8a to capture video, it works well, but I can't seem to find the timer setting. When I capture a 2 hr video, I have to manually start/stop it.
Is there any way to set it up on a timer to stop in 2 hours (or so) on it's on? I am using a Blackmagic capture card, and I notice that vegas has some sort of timer settings when you pull up the capture window, but these are greyed out.
Thanks for your input on this.

Hi!
In addition to the two most obvious suggestions, that you:
1) Read the documentation and
2) Click on the dropdown "Help" menu:
If that version is similar to earlier ones, there should be a setting for "Capture time" under "Preferences"...

thanks for your input. And just so you know, Sony does have a nice interactive help with the latest vegas. I went through the whole thing, and no mention of a "Timed capture". I also went to a sony forum and did a search, and nothing. I also searched on this site with the key words.."Vegas timer" in this section, and nothing. At that point, I posted this question.
If I overlooked the answer somewhere, I'm sorry. But I did search for it before coming here and posting.

I figured out the issue.
I had a problem with the capture card drivers in the beginning, and vegas automatically "UNSELECTED" the "Use external video capture application" under Preferences. The basic "capture video" under vegas itself does not allow for the use of a timer that I can find, but the external capture does. "VidCap60.EXE"

Glad to hear you've resolved your dilemma ;>}
So, is there still a setting for "Capture time" under "Preferences" in this newer version?

Yes there is. But you have to do a lot of "mouse clicking" to get to it. I would think a timer would work better as a button on the main page for easy access. (like nero does it with their capture software).
