Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a new monitor for x-mas and finally scrap my old Vision Master Pro 410 ;)
Here is what I'd like:
1. It should be a 19" LCD Screen
2. I can't pay more then 300€, better 250€ or below
3. Primarily it should be good for video playback and editing
4. Furthermore it shouldn't be too bad for "action" games
5. I really don't need built-in speakers or stuff
At the moment I contemplate that one:

I'd be happy for any recommendations, so thanks in advance! :)

I'd go for this one...
http://www.innova24.biz/ItemDetail.aspx?shitemid=43488&MG=1&SG=331
or if you want to save even more money...
http://www.innova24.biz/ItemDetail.aspx?shitemid=44949
I have the latter one and I'm more than pleased with it :)
DVI-out from my radeon 9600 pro to DVI-in gives a crystal clear impression and I see macroblocks of my videos everywhere now :D
or you think about the LG L225WS-SF 22"TFT

These days I wouldn't settle for anything less than full HD, if I were you.

for a monitor?? do I want such a monster on my desktop?? no!! ... as for TV that is a whole different story ;)

I currently wonder whether I should get a 19" or better a 22" screen.
As sillKotscha said, it has to fit on my desktop and unfortunately my room isn't too big ;)
Last but not least I won't buy a HD-DVD or Blue-Ray drive until it has turned out which of those formats will survive.
And of course not until that AACS crap is finally broken and history :p
So HD Video isn't a big topic for me...
Now I think about that one:

compared to
2 ms and 3000:1 @ ~ 250€ (LG L226WTQ-SF 22"TFT)

If you look at a 19" lcd, the total frame size is about the same as a 17" CRT because the borders are a lot smaller. So if you've got a couple of inches space around your current monitor I'd go for a 22".
If you've got more than one machine, the ability to switch between the DVI and VGA inputs on the display comes in very handy. For me anyway.

I have this one
19´´ LG Flatron L194WT-SF (TN, 300, 2000:1, 5ms) DVI
Believe me you won't be disappointed. I also see macroblocks if I don't use AQ patch in x264 :)

yeah its really upsetting how much getting a good LCD will raise the bar. Old encodes from a few years ago (when Xvid development was firing on all cylinders) that looked fantastic on my old 21" CRT look like _crap_ on my 24" BenQ.
HD-DVD on the other hand... well... it's a whole new world.
Another vote for a 22" wide. The pixel size at 1680x1050 is pretty solid on a 22, and a little small on a 19 wide.
IMO the 24" wide is the best bang for your buck these days - you can sometimes get them for under $400 USD, but that's a significant investment, and they do take up some real estate.
Not much of a footprint however. They just float.

Guess I will go with 22" wide screen then ;)
Probably the LG LG Flatron L226WTQ-SF, mentioned in my above post, for ~280€ ...

Important question:
If I buy a LCD screen online and then it turns out that it has a pixel error, what can I do ???
I know that I have to tolerate a limited number of pixel errors, but what about the simply returning the product?
Usually I have the right to return everything I bought online within 14 days, so in theory I could return the screen as well (pixel error or not).
But does this right apply to LCD screens? And can I still do it after unwrapping the screen to test it?
Unfortunately I doubt that...

Why do you ask us? Ask shop directly.

Why do you ask us? Ask shop directly.
Because that was a general question, not specific to a certain shop.
At the moment I even don't know at which shop I will buy the screen - if I buy it at all.
I just though someone who has dealt with such problem (or knows the legal conditions) can give a quick answer ;)
Contacting the shop's support would be the next step of course...
Asking and answering questions is the purpose of a board like this, right? ^^
Anyway I feel sorry if that question was too much off-topic.

Most online retailers have a dead pixel policy, you just have to find it. I know for a fact that Newegg does, but as you are in Germany, I don't know about the sites you plan on using.

Atelco offers a free check for dead pixels, as do most on-line shops if you ask for it. But I had some bad experience as well (18 months ago) - I paid EXTRA to get the check, then the monitor arrived with over 20 pixel errors!!! When I sent it back they said they couldn't find any and refused to give me my full money back. :(
I'd go with a well-know shop with a good reputation (www.geizhals.at/deutschland) like Mindfactory. ;)

depends on the store
I know some of them offer to check the moni before they send it to you, and if you pay the extra warrenty(I always do) you can send them back within 14-28 days for a new one, or repaired one
iuno about in germany though, I'd Assume so, seeing as how the EU seems to be much more Pro Consummer than over here in Canada and the USA

Lord Mulder, why don't you walk around in real world shops and take a look at some LCD? Data tables and such thing can not replace your own eye and what colour depth or/and how vivid image quality seem to you in watching LCD IRL.
Personally I would buy LCD from a shop nearby to avoid complication. Only if price would be extremely low I would consider online shopping of something that really is depending how your own reception of the visual quality work. As some poster said: what worked very well for CRT on Xvid is not that good anymore with LCD and higher resolution. That direct the attention toward a subjective way of evaluating which disiplay will suit your need.
Many companies use data sheets for display quality that is very hard for ordinary consumer to value or to compare with other LCD as those values aren't straight forward use for comparing with.

Of course, but need some info first, so I know which models I have take into account.
Yesterday I was in a shop and they had about 20 screen in a line, but they looked extremely unsharp!
I guess they were all connected to one single PC via D-Sub Splitter...
What about this one, seems to be pretty popular:

That 22 inch LCD monitor look great.
1 x VGA
1 x DVI-D
davon 1 x mit HDCP
It does have HDCP support according to spec. which can be useful for future upgrade to one of those HD resolution hardware players. While on the topic, what is your hardware? Couldn't find any info about that on your profile or homepage.
That display have got good words from some ppl that wrote reviews on the same web shop as you linked to. No pixel problem and good colour/brightness according to my understanding of german. ;-)

The two monitors I'm looking at are:
Samsung 245T (http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/spec.do?group=computersperipherals&type=monitors&subtype=lcd&model_cd=LS24HUCEFV/XAA&fullspec=F) (S-PVA, 97% NTSC Color Gamut)
Gateway FHD2400 (http://www.gateway.com/retail/fhd2400.php) (TN, 92% NTSC Color Gamut)
The Samsung is the one I want more, but I hear it has an average of around 50ms for input lag.. which might make playing FPS type games sucky :-/
The Gateway is supposed to be faster but there are other problems it has like backlight bleedthrough, poor viewing angles, etc.
Anyone know of any other 24" monitors that have HDMI/Component/S-Video/Composite input along with DVI and VGA also supports HDCP?
Both panels have the inputs I need/want though. HDMI with HDCP support, DVI, VGA, Component, Composite, S-Video.
I want to use this as a combo PC and PS3 monitor.

You with current technology, you pretty much have to accept that PVA panels have higher quality (viewing angle, picture saturation, etc) and are much more expensive while the TN panels have lower response times and are considerably cheaper.
For German-speaking people I recommend prad.de (http://www.prad.de), which has detailed tests about most of the monitors out there.

Seen the "My Specs" link in my signature? :p
But I guess you were looking for my type of graphics card, right?
It's and ATI Readoen 1950XT. It has DVI out of course. But it' doesn't support DHCP and I don't care.
When I really need DHCP (if ever), it will be time to buy a new graphics card anyway...
I really don't know how to decide. Maybe I'll simply take dice

For games and high fps, I'd rather have a slightly smaller screen with an excellent refresh rate rather than a screen 2 inches bigger diagonally with a refresh rate literally 3 times as slow!
The 245T etc are 6ms, and others are 8ms. Thats quite high, but typical of screens that size. I'd be going for the 226bw (226cw in the US?), just because its refresh rate is a mere 2ms, its a very high quality screen, and is ideal for high fps games.
Unfortunately most people buy 8ms screens because they're cheaper (in general), which are fine for word processing etc., but for games and high motion tv (such as AFL, Rugby, Gridiron, Soccer), you get a lot of blur.
