Is there a multi region dvd player/recorder for a pc or are they not made? I am building a new computer and looking for a dvd drive and/or dvd burner that will play all regions.
any suggestions or brands I can research?

Drives will require you to install a modified firmware, but it's not hard.

www.rpc1.org

I buy NEC drives because there's always an RPC1 firmware.

In Windows, you will need to use a player that has no region checking (like vlc), or install DVDGenie.

Is there a multi region dvd player/recorder for a pc or are they not made? The region restrictions exist in firmware. Most new drives capable of reading DVDs come with RRC-2 firmware (firmware with region restriction).

Sometimes RPC-1 firmware (firmware without region restriction) is available from OEMs.

Many times applying firmware that has had region restriction removed (patched firmware to RPC-1) is necessary to have a region-free drive.

Lite-On DVD-capable drives tend not to require RPC-1 specific firmware; the region protection control may be toggled (using a utility).
