View Full Version : What Does GSpot Mean 'Not Installed'?

Checking a couple of .mpg with Gspot I found that both are listed as Video codec 'Not installed'.

But both can be played on my computer, no problem.

Or burned to a dvd and played.

One is apparently in VCD format and the other in DVD format.

So my first question is 'Just what does Gspot mean?'

Next:

Searching for info on codecs I find a number available, such as 'stinky's' and yet I know I've had trouble (still can't do) getting the codec for quicktimealt to work with mpeg2.

So this question is: do I need just one 'mpeg2' codec or do I need a number of them? One for each different player/editor/whatever?

regards,

ab :)

GSpot is not always accurate in determining whether a suitable decoder is installed or not.

QuickTime does not use any of the installed codecs. It will only use its own private components.
