Thank you for contacting CyberLink Online Support.

We understand your concern related with PowerDVD Ultra.

Please note that PowerDVD Ultra 3319e and 3319f does not support HD content playback from hard drive.

If you try to play HD content from the hard drive, you will get an Error Code: 8090000A. Door is open or disc in not present.

Please feel free to contact us back for any further clarification or for any assistance related to CyberLink Products.

Thank You and Best Regards

the only media your allowed to watch is Big Boys Media on discs... to be allowed to have a key to show Big Boys Media , powerdvd has to bend over and take whatever Big Boys Media have up the ass...

your content means nothing...

i wondering whether it works if you create some iso from the files saved on hard disk, using ultraiso or similar software, and then mount the image with daemon-tools.

edit: just found this post, yes mounting the iso works:

Umm.. I'm currently playing an HD DVD from my HD and it works just fine even after installing the latest PowerDVD patch.
Could it be a Blu-ray only thing?

@edit: hmm, turns out I was using release 3304 - cyberlink reports this as not needing an update. I'll try the new version now.

@edit2: indeed.. HD playback no longer works - neither does playing individual EVO files for that matter (from either the original disc or HD). That just underlines for a HD capable MPC. Only if the player is outside of Hollywood's grasp, can be rest assured that it doesn't interfere with how we like to use the software.

And some people were so happy they could PLAY those new BD+ BLU-RAY discs.

Well i can tell you, this is EXACTLY what they want, that you can play "their?" content only with fixed players and no encoding possible.

50GB download? funk that! ill just "OMG!!!!111two" buy the disc.......... you lose :p

- Or someone has to create a tool to remove the bad data from the video stream.
- Or someone has to create a decrypter to make the video work for 3rd party (open source) players.

Now we can truely see who can code: Sony, Slysoft or whoever takes on _THE_ challenge :D

I agree. I hope that this absurd "feature" spurns on the public domain to develop a HD DVD capable VLC or MPC than can handle EVOBs. Needless to say, for the time being I won't be updating my PowerDVD and will have to rely on alternative means to extract my HD DVDs to my HD rather than getting new keys come the next MKB.

You can still play images you've made mounted with Daemon Tools though.

Less than ideal, but PowerDVD was always meant to be a bit of a stopgap for us until something better appeared. This is why people are so keen about E-AC3 support in ffdshow.

Now that Cyberlink has effectively killed PDVD, hopefully there will be more of an incentive for someone to develop an open source player, or add support for HD formats to VLC.

What about MPlayer? Can't it play EVO files?

I'd email them and complain

I wonder why they blocked all HD playback, and not just for HD content with BD+.

Could it be, that BD+ doesn't work once it is off the media?

@lightshadow

As it still works as .iso, indeed it doesn't, PowerDVD is doing the "media check" for Sony, for now...

Yeah, mplayer can demux HD-DVD EVO files and Blu-Ray m2ts files. The video codecs have been supported forever (H.264, VC-1, and obviously MPEG2). High-def audio's not quite there yet, but there are patches on the ffmpeg mailing list for DD+ (EAC3) and and Dolby TrueHD. Only thing missing is DTS-HD.

Basically someone just needs to collect together all the patches, test and release, and you can have ffdshow / media player classic / whatever play everything directly.

I assume that it wouldn't be a true HD DVD player, i.e. support the iHD features for the menus, etc? I can live with that anyway. As long as it can play the main EVOB ( and merge them together so that the film can be seamlessly played ) then that'll do me.

So a silly question:

What's the "preferred" version of PowerDVD that allows one to play files from hard drive and plays nice with AnyDVD HD? 3304?
