Hello,

it is some days that i can navigate in internet only by IE 64bit.

IE 32, mozilla and opera too, are not able to enter anymore in internet. (one week ago i navigated both 32 and 64 bit browser.
And also nod32 is not able too, to upgrade itself.

Any solution pls?

thanks,
ciao!

The best solution: throw vista in the shredder, format you partition and install XP.

Vista isn't as bad as people make it out to be, most people forget XP RTM!

Vista 64 has both 32- and 64-bit IE7 installed. Just choose the one required (64-bit whenever possible and 32-bit when you need the compatibility).

ok i will try the repair..

johnny...10 days ago was working both broswers... however the problem is also that i can't use mozilla and opera that i usually used, because i prefer them to IE...
and also nod32 that is not more able to be updated..
,,in general the problem is for all 32bit program the are not able more to have the internet access.

Just a shot in the dark, but you didn't, by chance, move your temporary directory (in IE's options), did you?

Vista64 + UAC = no IE if temp directory is moved

It took me days to track down that IE/Vista bug because who would've thought that??! (I kept wrongly blaming Kaspersky.)

Anyway, that was a couple a months ago, so maybe they released a "critical update" to fix it, and if so, then never mind. :)

But it's not just IE, it sounds like every 32-bit program that uses the tcp/ip stack is failing. I would suspect some sort of virus/spyware issue.

guys, UAC is disabled.

...it sounds like every 32-bit program that uses the tcp/ip stack is failing....

squid i think you hit the exact problem.
..spyware? mmm...it's strange but i don't know what to think...win defender did a check withouth find anything (ok...it's fuc*ing antispyware...i know... :D ).

Found the solution!

thanks to the exactly and sinthetic definion of the problem by squid, i was looking for somethng about the problem in google and I find:

XP TCP/IP Repair.

It is a little tool that has 2 options:

- reset TCP/IP
- repair winsock

I hit "repair winsock", i reboot and...tadan!!! :D
every 32bit browsers now accede to internet again, and nod32 has updated itself immediately!!

;)

PS ok..i solved...but... how did I get the problem above??

though the magic of the internets I assume
either that or just a random vista error that'll hopefully get fixed, with SP1

Some spyware hooks itself into the tcp/ip stack so it can reroute your web browser to whatever it wants. The specific ones I've seen modify google search results as they are sent from google to your pc and add their own links to the top of the list. The problem is if you delete the spyware you wipe out part of the winsock chain and everything stops working until the chain is repaired.

PS. It's not specific to vista at all, obviously something MS missed fixing though.

wasnt vista more secure? ... LOL ...
however never trust windows defender. it sux. remember also, one antispyware doesnt catch everything.
when cleaning customers PCs from the cr4p they get on the net, i usually have to scan their hard drives with 4 or 5 different antispyware softwares + KAV + rootkit revealers.

for reference, what that TCP/IP tool most likely did can be reproduced on the command line by doing this:

netsh winsock reset catalog

This re-installs the TCP/IP stack AFAIK.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 - New Winsock NETSH commands

Two new Netsh commands are available in Windows XP Service Pack 2.

netsh winsock reset catalog

This command resets the Winsock catalog to the default configuration. This can be useful if a malformed LSP is installed that results in loss of network connectivity. While use of this command can restore network connectivity, it should be used with care because any previously-installed LSPs will need to be re-installed.

netsh winsock show catalog

This command displays the list of Winsock LSPs that are installed on the computer.

To output the results to a file type this in Command Prompt (CMD.EXE)

netsh winsock show catalog >C:\lsp.txt

Click to view the sample file now - lsp.txt

See: Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2: Network Protection Technologies

Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE LSP Explorer Add-on can generate more information than NETSH, and provides options to Backup, Restore the LSPs, export the details to a HTML / Plain text file. Using the report you can easily determine the third-party LSPs, the Product, Company name and the corresponding LSP provider file name.

*

Download / Install Ad-aware SE from Lavasoft
*

Visit their Plugins page and install the LSP Explorer Plugin for Ad-aware (pllspexplorer)
*

Launch Ad-aware and click the Add-ons button
*

Double-click LSP Explorer add-on and run it

Download a sample LSP HTML report (6kb Zip).

Note that resetting the Winsock using netsh winsock reset catalog command in SP2 removes all the third-party LSPs and restores Winsock to factory default setting. Existing programs that uses their own LSPs, need to be reinstalled again. Example.. Google Desktop Search.

Source (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/winsock.htm)

Above is cut and pasted without picture and formatting so it looks really bad, but it explain at least that you will loose feature in some SW that also use LSP like Google Desktop and that Ad-Aware have some tool that might help you in restoring LSP.
