can't seem to find any info on what settings to use in dvd2avi. I open the vobs, and, according to the guide on doom, it says to first set the video-field operation to none. i then hit f5, and it says
aspect ratio - 16:9 720x480
frame rate 29.97 fps
video type film 98%
frame type progressive

The preview looks interlaced

If I change the video/field operation to forced film and hit f5, it says
aspect 16:9 720x480
frame type 24 fps
video type film 98
frame type progressive

The preview looks progressive.

open a vob in bitrate viewer to get the specs, and it says:
16:9, 29.97 fps, 720x480, frame type: progressive

If I select forced film, does it make a 29.97 to a 24?
can someone please explain to this newbie what is going on?

Also, what color space and YUV are recommended?

Yes, forced FILM gives 23.976 fps.
Choose YUV if use internal AVI coder or AVIsynth (GKnot).
Choose RGB if use TMPGEnc or VFAPI.
TV or PC scale depends on that where you will watch it...
