View Full Version : Trouble with decrypting "El Cantante"

I had trouble with decrypting "El Cantante." I solely use RipIt4Me in conjunction with DDecrypter and DVD Shrink. However, this was the first DVD that I had any problem with. When RipIt4Me attempts to parse the disc files it gets to about 12 and then crashes. I remedied this problem by using the free version of DVDFab HD Decrypter - found here (http://www.dvdidle.com)(big step up by the way)
Decrypted and loaded into DVD Shrink without any problems so far.
Is there any other remedy that I could've used without sacrificing the use of RipIt4Me???
Any other comments on the issue???
Thanks a lot guys!!

Hi!
"El Cantante" is apparently yet another "New Line Video" release with its annoying protection scheme that includes fake duplicate .VOBs, fake huge .IFOs, and mismatched .IFOs and .VOBs.
The latest versions of following three programs have been stated to be able to handle it properly:
1) DVDFab HD Decrypter (as you've already discovered)
2) AnyDVD (Other posters have stated this works)
3) DVD95CopyPro (I have first hand knowledge that this works)

I am not understanding just how to use the dvd95 software, so, I do not use anything else like shrink or dvd decrypter? Seems like it is not working. I need help!

@judyswolf
Please be a little more specific. What do you mean by, "Seems like it is not working"?
1) Which version did you purchase?
2) Have you successfully installed it? (Run it and enter the requested information
3) Did you read the "Help" files that automatically pop up when you first run the program?

It would only rip some of the files, then it asked for a dvd to copy to, it burned to a dvd and it was not complete. I then tried to go to the files on my hard drive and use shrink, and it would not work, neither did Dvd decripter. I also tried to run the vob files thru fixVTS, and that didn't work. Maybe I am doing something wrong, I am not sure, I am so used to using ripit4me by it kept crashing with this DVD 'El Cante. So frustrating. I am not trying SmartRipper.

I think what I am trying to ask is, do I use dvd95copy then find the file and use shrink? After I use dvd95, and it is the newest version, there is no backup file to be found.

@judyswolfIt would only rip some of the files
Again:

2) Have you successfully installed it? (Run it and enter the requested information)
3) Did you read the "Help" files that automatically pop up when you first run the program?

ok DVD95copydvd free version 3.8, it is properly installed as far as I know, the help files were how I set everything, I only made one change, to movie only.
The movie is El Cantante, after decrypting, it only burns just a few files. It is like it stumbles before I can get it finished. there seems to be a file that stops it.

free version 3.8That's a demo version only - limited to converting 25 minutes of a DVD...

oh no wonder. Also I just used anydvd and I found when using the decrypter, it would stop at Invalid VTS, and I just kept going on and they were VTS_01 0.BUP, and 02,03,04,05,06,07,08,09 and 11. But in going I used FIXVTS, and so far so good, looks like it worked so far, If I have another problem, I will be back. Thank you

Well, it finished but didn't work properly, it seemed to be missing some files, skipped over to next scenes.

Make sure you are using the latest version of AnyDVD (6.1.9.3). Use the built-in AnyDVD ripper to rip the disc to your HDD and then do any further processing that you want with programs like Nero Recode, DVD Shrink, etc. Once done with that burn with the program of your choice to a quality blank disc (ie Verbatim).
The above method does work perfectly unless you have a bad original disc. There should be no bad sectors on the disc but if you use Nero CD-DVD Speed - now called Nero DiscSpeed - and find bad sectors then your disc is flawed and return it for a replacement.
When dealing with X-Protect protected discs and using AnyDVD to get the best results you must either use the AnyDVD ripper [which is included with the program] or CloneDVD. Other programs seem to be hit-and-miss with this and the results come out varied. DVD Shrink used to rip this disc straight to your HDD with AnyDVD in this situation will result in a bad backup even though the process appears to have worked successfully, unfortunately. This will happen with X-Protect protected DVDs.
Edit: This disc most likely will be decrypted just fine with any version of AnyDVD since they added the A.I. Scanner and Blade - House of Chthon was supported.

Interesting thread... it's kind of funny how basically a couple of software apps seem to leap frog each other with the new protection schemes that are developed. You now, I'm just realizing that it's been quite a while since RipIt4Me has been updated. Up until about 6 or 7 months ago, it seemed like there was a newer version every few weeks or so. I've been using it as my primary app since it was first released and I never had any trouble until now. Have you heard any talk of whether it's just fallen behind a little, or if it is suffering the same demise as DDecrypter and Shrink?? peculiar
