hi,
yes that's my question:
Comparison of the video/audio quality between SVCD and DivX.
I have seen some guides of DivX and SVCD ripping and it was always told that the SVCD-way has a much more lower quality as a DivX Rip.
Is that true? And if yes how much less is the quality?
Or is it just a lie?

let the wars begin.
I'd trust ScooterMyth's opinion on this since he does both or DDogg if he wakes up from the dead.

I guess the big difference is that divx is not a standard, for example, you could encode a movie in divx at 1600x1200 resolution, and use 6000 kb/s bitrate. With SVCD you're stuck to 480x576 (in PAL). A friend of mine does all his movies in divx, and puts them on 2 cd's to ensure quality, but I really don't see the difference between a movie on 2 svcd's in my dvd-player, or a divx movie of the same size on my pc with tv-out. Or maybe it's just me...:cool:

The biggest difference to me is this:
DivX I have to watch on my PC-monitor at my desk and on my chair.
SVCD I can watch over my standalone-player on my TV-set lying the feet on the table and sitting in my couch.
