View Full Version : CoreAVC/VLC/FFDshow chokes on high bitrate content?

I have a 1 minute video file of some HL2EP2 footage I capped with Fraps. Its at 2560x1024. I used MeGUI's lossless profile to convert it to h264. The resulting file is about 750mb @ 101474kbps. (rediculous, I know.)

VLC pretty much chokes on playing it, but if I tell it to not drop frames, I can partially view it.

CoreAVC via MPC on the other hand, won't even start playing it. Just a black screen.

FFShow via WMP is just bizarre. It looks like WMP is flipping the right half of the video over on the left half with some transparency.

Any solutions? I'm running a dual 2,8ghz AMD x2 processor, I wonder if that is enough for 101474kbps....

I guess I could reencode it at a more reasonable bitrate...

There's no way that'll even play on a quadcore, I think. Maybe if you disabled CABAC, it might.

CoreAVC should work fine though, I've used it for high-bitrate lossless content before.

I knocked it down to 45000 kbps and VLC plays it better, but CoreAVC + MPC still refuses to do it.

Can it display any videos @ 2560x1024, in other codecs?

With that enormous resolution, good luck playing *any* video. :D

The latest, 1.5.0 I believe. My second attempt was with HQ-Insane @ 45000kbps.

hehe, not a clue. I don't have any other content with that high of a resolution.

Just upload the 750mb file (torrent?) somewhere! :D

I have 1000/512 DSL. It'd take you 2 years to download the clip.

Uh, no. Using BitTorrent it wouldn't take that long.

I have Cable and my upload speed with it is 5000/384. Notice your upload is faster? So yeah... wouldn't take that long :-P Maybe a few hours.

looking at my modem right now: 1024 down, 96 up

It varies with the phase of the moon. I think 2 years is a legit estimate. (just calculated it, 18 hours. But why do you want the 750mb clip anyway? heh.)

I don't want it.. just wanted to point out that 512Kbps max upload is not slow whatsoever.

Did your second attempt encode at 45mbps play on your Athlon?

I'm interested in seeing if your 750mb file lossless h264 at such resolution would plug up my Quad Core lol do you plan to upload it?

already deleted it :( I didn't have any reason to keep it on my drive. I only made it to see if I could play hl2ep2 @ 2560x1024 and record at full resolution at the same time.
