I noticed, ripping interlaced PAL dvd that dont give field problems (the ones during motion scenes), that the picture is not
completely ok. It seems to me (and I'm not appling any resizing filter) that there is, at pixel level, some sort of sharpen effect, that reminds me of 544-512 resized resolution.
I'd like to know (expecially from trbarry :D ) if its a dvd problem
and if there is a way to solve it.

I'm using gknot (the last movie I noticed it in was Pearl Harbor)

thank you in advance.

It sounds like deinterlacing artifacts. When you are doing IVTC then each pixel can just be selected from the proper field and nothing has to be blended together.

But when deinterlace video source or do a resize it is possible some selective smoothing takes place as pixel values are calculated from those of surrounding pixels. This can cause a shimmering effect and maybe that is what you see.

But I am not sure why you would be deinterlacing Pearl Harbor. Isn't that from film source?

I think there are also some variety of processes in how material is transferred from NTSC to PAL but I don't have much understanding here. But that is another possibility.

No, infact I'm nor deinterlacing nor resizing it !!!
its encoded as its (I leave the black upper and lower lines too).
But it gives me this problem, its like the effect of non using
antialiasing...I think I should post a picture as soon as possible...
