View Full Version : Deleting/Editing chapter positions with IfoEdit?

Is it possible to do some editing stuff on chapter positions (removing a chapter mark or moving it to another position) with IfoEdit?
(I'm asking for this as I discovered something mysterious (to me!):
On a DVD I have ("Der Schakal", RC-2) there is a small picture/sound freeze when the movie changes form chapter 1 (opening titles) to chapter 2 (start of the movie). I always thought this to be an error on the DVD. Then I made a movie-only copy of it using IfoEdit. The copy had the same problems as the original DVD. But: When I play the VOB file with WinDVD, it plays flawlessly!!!
So I thought that behaviour could be caused by a misplaced chapter mark, or does someone have another explanation for that?)

I don't think, it's a chapter problem. You can edit the chapter-marks, but are only taken in account, if you jump to a specific chapter.
Chapter are defined in following table: 'PTT_SRPTI'.

But I think if there's a problem in the Ifo-file, then it would be in the Cell-Information in the PGC.

Derrow,
I'm not sure if that's a problem with the ifo file, since both the original and the copied DVD (with different ifos) show the same behaviour: After playing chapter 1, the stand-alone player (Pioneer-DV444) switches to "SEARCH" mode (this freezes picture & sound) and then resumes the "PLAY" mode. Just like switching from menu display to play...
But if it is an ifo-related issue: Would you mind to have a look at the file generated by IfoEdit?

It does sound like something that would show up in the ifo. If a player freezes it's because there is some reason to reposition the pickup, whereas a HD has larger buffers and faster access.
Most likely it was authored poorly using non-seamless branching to go from the opening credits into the movie.

I will try to borrow 'Der Schakal' RC2 and test it with my pioneer DV535, to see if I can reproduce the problem.

Forgot to mention that WinDVD:
a) plays the VOB file without any problems
b) plays the DVD with freezing picture/sound
