I am currently using Megui with x264 and the standard matrix.
I am using it to convert my Hi-def Blu-Ray and HD-DVD material so my HTPC software can use it with it's internal player (more then size reduction).
For speed I am encoding at 720P. Also at 12'-14' I can't tell the difference between 1080 and 720 on my 55" TV.
I get file sizes from 8gb-12gb with either the DTS or AC3 audio.
Bitrate is often around 11k-12k average.

Based on these settings is there any other Matrix I should try?

Thanks,
Mark

For x264, you don't use a custom matrix because you're encoding at X bitrate, in my experience; you use one because you want, for example, greater grain retention.

Is there anything in particular you want the matrix to get you?

No not really anything specific.
Just hunting for ways to get more (if I can) out of my encodes.
Awhile back there were a bunch of matrixes floating around, but I haven't seen much in some time on this subject.
