Hi. Just so you know, I am a noob; I'm relatively new to this type of thing, but I'm really interested in it, and how it all works.
I'm just interested in knowing which out of these two, is the better program? and why?

In terms of DVD ripping programs, I have DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter.

I like DVD Shrink; as you can do a lot more things with it: split videos, remove audio, etc.
But, I guess it is slightly outdated.
But I feel that DVD Decrypter is more...safe as a program. Plus, it can get rid of most DVD region protection..

Is one better than the other? Are they both the same? Is there a better program? If so, is it worth getting?

:thanks:

shrink is better but dvd decrypter will do some movies that dvd shrink cant do but then you will have to use dvd shrink if you want to make it fit on a regular 4.7 gb dvd instead of a dl dvd

Yeah, I'd go with Shrink.

Why is DVD Decrypter "safer"? It's definetly gotten more legal attention than DVD Shrink; that's why it's now defunct. And that's why the makers of DVD Shrink don't host it themeselves; to avoid said legal interest.

But really, the risk ends once you download the program, as long as you don't share any DVDs you back up with it.

If you have a lot of disk space and aren't in a huge hurry to rip, then the best way is to use ripit4me or dvd fab decryptor to create an ISO, then load it as a virtual drive (daemon tools, alcohol 100%, etc) and use Shrink or your favorite reauthoring tool to play with it. Very few movies can stand up to ri4m or dvdfab, compared to the many that get by dvd decryptor and shrink.

ri4m can also extract just the main movie if that's all you're really interested in.
