Hi! I'm new to this forum and DVD burning. I use ImgBurn and Nero and a new Pioneer DVR-112 to burn. DVD-5s are no problem, but when I try to burn DL discs it always fails. Here is a log of my latest burn:

On another forum it was suggested that the media I used was low quality. But that doesn't explain why the first 7 DL discs I burned are perfect! Ever since I installed AnyDVD to burn copy-protected discs I wasn't able to successfully burn a single DVD-9. But uninstalling AnyDVD didn't fix the problem. I've been using Nero, ImgBurn, DVD Shrink and CloneDVD to burn, all with the same result, nothing but coasters. Do I need to change any settings? Should I disable/uninstall other burn software when I'm using one of them? What else do I need to pay attention to? I never run other programs when burning, and always use the lowest speed to burn.
I'd greatly appreciate some advice! :thanks:

I see a warning at the top of the log:
W 18:49:37 AnyDVD can interfere with ImgBurn's ability to verify accurately, please ensure it's disabled!

And then your verification fails:
E 20:11:19 Failed to Verify Sectors!

Something tells me you should disable AnyDVD ;)

Hi!Are you choosing to burn at 1x? If so, why?

From what I read on several forums it's safer to burn at low speeds. It minimizes errors and is more precise. So I always set burn speed to the lowest possible setting. I'm not in a hurry to burn a disc in a short time, but I do want do get the best possible quality out of each burn with least possible risk.

Kumi, as I wrote in my original post, I did have AnyDVD disabled, even uninstalled, during previous burns. Only that didn't change anything. However AnyDVD interferes with the verification process, it doesn't seem to be responsible for failed DL burns. I did use to blame AnyDVD before, since trouble started only after I had installed it. But when I uninstalled it and still burned only coasters I realized the problem was elsewhere. And uninstalled programs can hardly do any damage, can they? Here's an ImgBurn log for a burn without AnyDVD installed:

This second log you've posted indicates that you burned a SINGLE layer DVD on very poor quality media (DAXON_AZ3-00) at 1X.

1) Again, burn at 4X or 8X

2) For S/L burns, use high(er) quality media, such as Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden

3) For D/L burns, use ONLY Verbatim D/L DVD+R burnable media - Burn at 2.4X

Well that log certainly seems to indicate that AnyDVD is not interfering. You can make sure of this under Tools > Filter Driver Load Order...

In any case, setarip_old's advised media types for S/L and D/L should be heeded. There is almost no chance in h*** that a "Daxon" D/L is going to successfully burn :)

Just to clarify on burning speeds: Always burn at or close to the rated speed of a disc, because lower-speed discs actually have a different physical and chemical construction than higher-speed ones. That's where the rating comes from. There's a lot of leeway, but burning an 8x dvd at 1x (let alone a 52x cd) will reduce lifespan considerably.

(Daxon is BenQ, currently, and seems to get utterly lousy ratings at anything over or under 4x.)

Is that media also low quality? Or could there be other reasons for failure?

You've been offered several suggestions, especially regarding burn speed and specific brand of DL burnable media, yet you keep posting logs showing that you're burning at 1X.

What further information could you possibly be seeking, without following the suggestions already provided to you?

I haven't gotten around to buying any discs yet, that's all. That log is an old one, I just posted it to see if anybody could make sense of it. It's not that I'm not taking any advice! As soon as I get some better quality discs I'll try another burn at a different speed, then post another log if it fails again.:p
