View Full Version : AVI plays with wrong aspect ratio and has redundant second audio track - how to fix?

Hello there!

How can I change the AR setting of an AVI file without re-encoding?

I am using VLC and Media Player Classic: The video plays quite fine, just that the players open the video in totally widescreen (about 2.75:1), though it should be 16:9. The video is Xvid 720 x 384 and MPC claims AR is 349:128. I can set MPC to override aspect ratio and then it's o.k., but not permanently of course.

What's more, the file has two audio tracks and I'd like to remove the second. I think AviMux GUI and AviDemux can do that, but they can not just change the Aspect Ratio setting as far as I can see. Is there an easier way (to do both tasks with one program)?

The AVI was made with VirtualDubMod, but not by me and I don't know more about its creation.

mpeg4modifier, or possibly muxing it into mp4/mkv and setting DAR that way.

Thanks Foxy,

that did it alright! MPEG4 Modifier works perfectly. The original setting was Pixel AR: 16:9, which was correct, but obviously not sufficient for the players. The new setting is Display AR: 16:9.

To remove the second audio track I got the best result with AVI-Mux (GUI), although Avidemux is good too. Avidemux automatically strips the second audio track when copying video and audio streams to a new AVI (no dual audio) file. But AVI-Mux allows to set a title for the file, and it can create MKV too.

how come it doesn't seem to have any effect for me? the reolution of the clip is 352x240 xvid, packed bitstream but no matter what i do it doesn't seem to change the video ar at all - at the moment it is 1.47:1 (according to Media player Classic), and Video info states that the pixel ar is square...any ideas? :(

EDIT: I changed the video output to VMR9 Renderless and then the AR change was recognised by MPC. :)
