View Full Version : AVI2MPEG: Unexpected termination of Nero Vision

Dear All,

I am using Nero Vison 4 to encode AVI files to MPEG2 ("Create DVD"). All videos are about 25-30 min long (captured from my DigiCam).

In 1 out of 3 cases the program does the encoding without any problem. In the other two cases the program terminates without any prior warning and notification.

The funny thing: in some cases I can manage the encoding just by repeating the run (3-4 times) - for some AVI-files I have no chance to finish the encoding without program termination even after 10 times.

(1) Does anyone know this problem and how to fix it?
(2) Can anyone give me a reason why this does happen?
(3) Is there any alternative software (unlimited freeware) doing the same job for me in a stable way?

* TMPGEnc has been installed and used some years back on my machine, so I cannot use this for free again.

** From the www I got the solution to install the codecs "ffdShow". I have done so and it does not help to solve my problem.

Looking forward to your replies.

Best regards
Musi

It's often suggested that one gets what they deserve in using nero for encoding.

I haven't had the pleasure.

Is nero unlimited and free?

Nonetheless, plenty of options.
Start by looking at the excellent FAVC. frontend for free software.
encode with hc.
ConvertXtoDVD isn't free, but it's user friendly. Very. Many like the ease.

btw,
you might want to be more specific about what you're working with in future problem reports. Like do you have problems with other files? Does it do it with everything? Specs of said files... and so on.
Installing ffdshow might not be enough. if you actually want it to decode, you might have to set it up to do so. sensibly it doesn't default to decode everything.

your best bet with what you are using is probably a complete uninstall/re-install.
