View Full Version : How do I create my own menus?

How do I make a simple top menu for re-authored multi movie DVDs?

I like to strip off all the menus and extras, shrinking the main movies only. This leaves me enough space to fit 5 high quality resolution movies on a dual-layer disc. All I need now is a simple menu listing the contents of the DVD so the user can go directly to the desired movie.

I've tried using Nero, which makes great menus but forces you to very bad quality compression...

There must be a program that makes a very simple Top Menu, something that won't increase the size of the ISO by much.

I used DVDRemakePro to do just that. I'm not sure if you can do more than two video sets but that was the only application I used it for in the past with my Band of Brothers DVDs.

Pre posting edit: http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/download.php has a picture with this heading "Merged DVD start-up menu backgrounds (2, 3 and 4 buttons) for NTSC".

I'm not sure if the demo version will work for this feature, but you can try it. $50 was a little much at the time, but for as much as I used it I thought it was well worth it for the applications I use it for and the time saving/ ease of use factor was a good point in my decision.

You can also try "GUI for DVD Author"

to evilkorn: I don't have any money to pay for a program.
to joseph5: what does "Gui for DVD Author" mean?

I just need to make a simple menu.

I've got entire DVDs of TV episodes, cartoons, mutiple movies... what have you. I need a simple menu to list these and allow the user to go directly to that track, instead of fast forwarding.

Unfortunately, many people have no idea how to go to a specific title on their DVD players.

Or just use google to get to the official website if you want.

Frankly there are two programs:
Gui for DVDAuthor

and

DVDAuthorGUI

Pick whichever one suit you.

So the demo version didn't have that feature?

TMPGEnc DVD Author: 1 (http://www.digital-digest.com/articles/TMPGEnc_DVD_Author_3_DVD_Authoring_Guide_page1.html) & 2 (http://forum.videohelp.com/topic318702.htmll)
Dvdauthorgui (http://forum.videohelp.com/topic270121.html)
DVDAuthorGUI (http://download.videohelp.com/liquid217/dvdauthorgui.pl?p=guide1)
DIKO (http://www.vmesquita.com/dikoauthor)
Nero Vision (http://www.digital-digest.com/articles/Nero_Vision_4_DVD_Authoring_Guide_page1.html)

Also you can try a fully functional DVD-Lab Pro for 30 days.

A- If demuxing:

At startup choose the proper project system settings, and on the lower right corner make sure DVD9 is selected. Import & demux assets, add the movies, audio & *subtitles if required (check other assets such as backgrounds, buttons and etcetera for the menu). Create a simple Menu, link the buttons to the movies, and simulate the project. Make sure to review the connections, color palette, navigational links, and the Layer-Break. If you're satisfied with the simulation, compile the project and later test the DVD with your favorite media player before burning.
*use VSRip (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84442) to extract them, subresync (http://download.videohelp.com/download/VobSub_2.23.exe) (from the VobSub Suite) to convert them to SSA or SON format. Finally use DVDSubEdit ( http://download.videohelp.com/DVDSubEdit/ ) to correct color/transparency issues.

B- Not demuxing:

Create a Menu with DVD-Lab Pro or similar application; use a 12\15ms blank video for the movie title(s), and author (you can also test menus this way). Use PGCEdit (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=121146) selecting "New DVD", import: the new-authored Menu, movie titles (VTST) and “PGC commands” from the stripped DVD. Finally edit\fix commands as needed with PGCEdit.

I’d only use method "B" for Two-Disc Menu projects (episodic) needing synchronized subtitles due to cutting; demuxing wasn’t an option. Depending the circumstances there are probably easier ways, in any case please:search:.

Hope it helps somehow!
