I have an mpg video and I edited the audio, but I can not figure out how to use the new audio without re-encoding the video. This would be really easy if it were in AVI format with virtual dub. Anything like this for mpg videos?

Demux the audio and video to elementary streams (e.g., DGIndex) and then remux the video and the new audio (e.g., Imago Muxer).

There are many possibilities for demuxing and remuxing tools. Use Google.

I can't get Imago or TMPGEnc to accept my audio. I've tried wav, mp3 and ac3. Says "Illegal MPEG audiostream" in TMPGEnc. Both programs also randomly crash when selecting audio or video.

When I try to mux with the original mpa audio that DGIndex creates it works, so maybe I am doing something wrong with the audio format?

I'm editing in vegas and then saving the audio as wav, mp3 or ac3. Just needed to lower the volume in some spots. Should I be using a different editor for the audio? Any specific settings I need to use?

btw, I believe that was your 10,000 post...nice. :)

If I were you, I'd post in the Audio forum about it now, emphasizing the audio issue so it doesn't look like a cross post. :)

I don't know Vegas so I can't help with it.
