So I'm using DvdFabDecrypterHD 3.1.8 and DVDshrink to rip my movies.
I ripped Apocalypto and didn't have any subtitles. When I go into DVDshrink I make sure that the english subtitles are checked and watch the .VOB in my DVD software the subtitles don't show up.

Is there a way to see if the subs are actually there? I have media info but can't tell if it says anything about the subs.

Just to let you know I have subtitles to be shown in my player.

Thanks

Did you make sure that subtitles were checked in DVDFab HD Decrypter?

I didn't mess with the settings. When I open DVDshrink after ripping with DVDFab HD Decrypter it would show the the subs there.

Hi!watch the .VOB in my DVD software the subtitles don't show up.Make certain that you are actually playing the DVD "package" (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs) "as a DVD" (NOT simply playing the .VOB)...

What DVD software are you using for playback?

To see whether your subbies have indeed been ripped, open the first movie VOB in DVDSubEdit. You'll see soon enough if the subs are actually there. Alternatively, DVD Shrink should show abut 5Mb next to English subbies.

Ok, so When I rip my movies I keep the one big .vob. I figured that thats the movie and evrything is on that.

I have TheaterTek and its up to date for dvd playback.

I'll take a look at DVDSubEdit tonight. Ya like I said earlier in DVDshrink it showed the option to rip with subs.

I figured that thats the movie and evrything is on that.I'm fairly certain that if you DON'T have (and, therefore, your playback software can't access), the .IFO file, you will NOT see the subtitles, despite the fact that they are physically included in the .VOB(s)...

@setarip_old

Without the IFOs, the DVD would not load into DVD Shrink (see post 1).

@miklg21

While the English subtitles option might be there in DVD Shrink, check to see if they are a few Megabytes in size. If 0, then you will need to re-rip.

@blutach

You might want to re-read all of the posts by both me and "miklg21", to better understand why I've posted what I've posted here.

However, regardless of what you or I think, we'll just have to wait for the next posting by "miklg21" to better understand the circumstances...

So, I ran the single vob through DVDSubEdit and the subs were there.

I even ripped another movie with subs, which DVDSubEdit verified they were there and they didn't show up when I played the movie.

This time with the second movie I left .IFO's and .BUP's in the folder too.

:confused:

My DVD software could be screwed up, but I can;t see it doing this.

A little off topic. I'm thinking about streaming this to my xbox 360 through media center to see if the subs show up there. If I convert these vobs to .MPG will the subs be there?

What DVD playing software are you using?

Try Media Player Classic or VLC.

This time with the second movie I left .IFO's and .BUP's in the folder too.I'm not personally familiar with "TheaterTek". Perhaps it's not capable of reading DVD "packages" (.IFOs, .BUPs, and .VOBs). Have you previously had success playing ANY DVD with subtitles displayed, using "TheaterTek"?

Try playing the full DVD "package" with the VLC player - and after selecting "Play Movie" from the main menu and starting the movie, select "Subtitles" from the "Video" dropdown menu...If I convert these vobs to .MPG will the subs be there?No

So I finally got some time to get back to this and downloaded VLC. I ran two test. I used DVDShrink and ripped the movie with under the subpicture section english-normal captions and english. Both files played with subs when using VLC. I ran the single vob with nothing in its folder and VLC still played the subs. I don't understand why WMP or theatertek wouldn't play it with subs.

Also, now that you've confirmed that the suggested use of VLC does display the subtitles, does that serve your purpose?

It will play a dvd with subs, but I have never checked to see if it plays a ripped dvd's subs.

It serves my purpose, but I was just worried about losing the subs when I rip the DVD because I was thinking about archiving all my DVD's to stream them to my tv.
