Many people do not realize that their local PUBLIC LIBRARY may be a source of FREE DVD"s for their "viewing" pleasure. My local library presently has about 60 to 70 DVD's. They are very popular and there are probably only 10 or so on the rack every time I visit the library - BUT - I can RESERVE a DVD. When I RESERVE a DVD they hold it aside for me and call me on the phone that it is in. I finally got their ONE copy of "Pulp Fiction" which was constantly OUT. The head librarian told me they will be getting about 12 new DVD's a month from now on.
In addition - my local library belongs to a REGIONAL library consortium which has over 400 DVD's that they lend out. I put in a request for ANY 3 that I want and about a week later there is a message on my answering machine that they are in. They allow you SEVEN days to view the movie before it must be returned...
The TWO downsides to using the library is that they are a little slow in getting the NEWEST movies AND they only buy ONE copy of the DVD. They are probably a month or so behind rental stores. BUT - If you are a frugal person as I am, why rent the video for $3-$4 for two days when you can get it for NOTHING for a week?

Not all counties do this. I'm not surprised.
