View Full Version : Removing items from DVD Rip but retaining timestamps

I've tried to take a few DVD's, rip them, and remove titles and the extra's.

I rip them to one large VOB file with DVD Decrypter and then convert them with PS3 Video 9 to MP4 so I can play them via the lan on my PS3.

Regardless of what method I've used the timestamps get all screwed up.

Is there anything out there that will retime code it?

Say if the movie jumps chapters, and I remove a chapter in the middle the timestamp goes haywire which causes the PS3 to go nuts because it is linear only, there is no slider bar to adjust.

My only idea so far was to rip the entire DVD to a single VOB, bring it into Premier or something, cut out the sections I want, save it and then convert it.

I've tried a bunch of different software and nothing seems to work.

I've tried playing the original large VOB but at 8-9 gigs my PC(3.2ghz Core 2 w/ 2 gigs of ram and RAID 0) is really poor at FF and RR on the PS3. The file needs to be smaller and converting it to MP4 fixes that problem because the file is so much smaller.

Seems like this is something that would come up a lot but I can't find much info on it.

Thanks

I think this falls under advanced authoring, but I'm not quite sure. I'll move it in for now.

I just reread what I wrote and maybe could be a bit clearer.

I want to edit out portions of a linear video by pulling chapters, and then when I re-encode it, have it resequence all of the time.

So if there was 3 30 minute chapters and I pull the middle chapter, the final re-encoded video would go from 0 minutes to 60 minutes intead of what is happening, 0-30 and then 61-90.
