I just bought myself a pioneer 103 dvd burner :). I tried to copy a short r1 movie and it works perfect on my dvd rom. But on my pioneer 535 it finds the movie and starts. But when it suposed to go to the menu after playing the intro it stops :(.. (i copy the files to my harddrive with smartrip and burn with nero).
I use a tdk dvd-rw disc

did you write both video_ts AND audio_ts directories and both UPPERCASE? check if probably the files in the video_ts dir should be also all upper case.
afaik smartripper creates under w2k and wxp lowercase video_ts directory.

This sounds definatly like a wrong start sector!
Use IfoEdit on every IFO file, and press the button 'Get VTS Sectors', and resave the IFO's.
Make sure, you are using the latest version of Nero v5.5.6.4
Then it should play perfect with pioneer DV 535.

Just made 3 nice coasters!!!
After burning with Nero 5.5.6.4 demo version I tried testing the copy out on my PS2 and wasn't able to boot the DVD-R with the following message "Please insert PS2 format disc" and when I test the DVD-R with my PC the following message is given " File Format on this DVD Title are invalid"???
I'm hoping I'm selecting the wrong compilation to burn my DVD-R, I'm selecting (DVD-ROM UDF/ISO) as my method to burn per instruction I have read. With PowerDVD I can play files from my ripped DVD folder, but just can't get the info to copy to a DVD-R correctly.
what's in my Video_ts folder
video_ts.bup
video_ts.ifo
video_ts.vob
vts_01_0.bup
vts_01_0.ifo
vts_01_0.vob
vts_01_1.vob
vts_03_0.bup (main movie)
vts_03_0.ifo
vts_03_01.vob
vts_03_02.vob
vts_03_03.vob
vts_03_04.vob
I followed all the instructions available to make a perfect DVD copy, but just can't figure out the invalid format error.
DVD Drive Pioneer A03
DVD-R (TDK & Memorex)
thanks for any help!!!

Have you made sure, that your VIDEO_TS folder is uppercase?

Also try using a real DVD player, there are problems with using PS2.
And I would strongly recommend to any one starting out to use RW disks until they know what they are doing. RW disks may cost more, but they never turn into coasters (or Frisbees), and are readable by most players.
edit: OK, so I have one CD-RW coaster, but it's 5 years old, a cheap generic brand, and really worn out.
