Im curious (mainly for purposes of sticky resources). What encoders people are using for mpeg-2. So I will post a vote. If you use more than one (I do) then vote for the one you use the most.

What about MPEG-1? Most of my encodes are MPEG-1 (underwater swimming video for teaching). I use it for compatibility with all PCs and VirtualDub. I use TMPGEnc.

Also HC at the moment, but I would like to try MEncoder with DVD-RB.
Greetings.

I voted ProCoder, but I also use HC for lesser compression ratios.

mpeg-1 options are fine.
i thought about putting ffmpeg as an option. guess it'll go into other. if you use ffmpeg or any 'other' as your primary app, please post a comment (if you dont mind)

My favourites:
QuEnc together with QuEnc^n for low bitrate encodes.
HCEnc with HCEnc^n for medium to high bitrate encodes.
Depends a bit on the source of course....

Sorry, what are "QuEnc^n" and "HCEnc^n" ?

Always HC encoder now. I use to use AutoQMatEnc every now and then but for some reason it has stopped working on my machine. Plus it doesn't look like it is going to be updated any more.
I have considered buying Procoder but I don't see the point any more when HC encoder does such a great job. Plua I am no longer a student so I can't get the cheap price anymore!

@bb: I agree....
Also I havenīt tried MC MPEG Encoder for some time the results were very good.
@linx05:
Although OT: AQE currently isnīt updated since Sapstar is in problems. His wife is somewhat sick (I donīt know the details) and he had to care for his three children. I feel with him....

I'm sorry to hear that. Send him my best wishes next time you talk to him.

Quenc here, either for avi to dvd or dv to dvd conversions.

Ive been using Tmpegenc free since ages (set to max quality), and never saw flaws in encodes. Surprising to see it in the lower tier.
But maybe others do provide better encodes (for fixed bitrates), and in less time ?
I'll be looking at CCE and HCenc next.

Well, I've used CCE for as long as I can remember, but every now and then I use other encoders (Procoder, HCEnc).
For some reason, I tend to use HCEnc when doing the odd SVCD.
