Testing by AnandTech showed that the hotfix significantly reduced the memory footprint of games, by an average of about 400MB per game (when equipped with a 768MB GeForce 8800 GTX). However, even after the fix was applied, games still took up about 180MB more than when they were run on the same hardware under Windows XP, an indication of Vista's higher resource requirements. Adding the fix dropped most games safely under the 2GB limit, but with games such as Supreme Commander still taking up 1,580MB it is clear that the next generation of games may start to run into the barrier again.
