I came across a problem that I have and I thought that maybe I am not the only one that have had or will have this issue.
I have a DVD that I will not have access to in the future, but I am already in the middle of another encode. I can stop this first encode and start it back up again using crash recovery if I had to.

The stop button idea that was previously asked for would help here.

My situation is that I want to do a rip and only rip. I will come back to the VOB files in the future. I know I have several options now. I could use Smartripper and pipe it through DVD2SVCD, I could start an encode and force it to stop after the rip completes.

Problem with the first option is the enormous amount of disk space this requires. For a time I will need 2 copies of all the Vob files and potentially is not as good as the internal ripper.
The second requires me to force the stop and hazard file corruption.

What I am basically asking if it is possible is to have an option to stop after the rip with DVD2SVCD and thus you could start an encode in the future without the need to pipe.

Not really a big deal. As I said there are other options around. I just wanted to point out a potential feature.

Thanks,
Mark

you can close DVD2SVCD just when DVD2AVI starts its work, without any file corruption.

I use smartripper (I know you know you know and said) but honestly it works perfect. First thing I do is open WinDVD to see if the last chapter or last two chapters are credits. Then using smartripper rip to hd minus the credits. I had like 4 dvds the other day on 20GB partition. The first two encodes I didn't have the space to use crash recovery so I had to uncheck Don't Delete Files option.

Yup, I've done that a few times with no problems (had to use end task feature though). There can't be any corruption as the ripped VOBs are being used as read only.

Still I have thought that it would be nice to have a "rip only" button. But it's not a big issue.

Not to be a pain and I can easily get around it, but yes an open file, even in read only, can get corrupted. It happened to me today when I shut down DVD2AVI while it was reading the VOB file. I had to rip them over again and this time I simply waited for DVD2AVI to finish before shutting everything down. If I was fast enough I would have stopped everything before DVD2AVI started, but I was out of the room at the time.
I will simply do it this way from now on. Easy enough.
