View Full Version : RipIt4Me: DVDD Didn't Import PSL

RipIt4Me gave me a message that the PSL file may not have been imported by DVDDecrypter and to check the DVDD log. If it wasn't imported I should abort and rerip.

I was able to access the DVDD log through RI4M Log/Settings and I saw no mention of DVDD inmporting the PSL file.

The files loaded up OK in DVD Shrink. Does this really require a rerip?

What is the PSL file anyway? It seems to be created by RI4M.

Hi!The files loaded up OK in DVD Shrink. Does this really require a rerip? If the files play properly, it owuldn't appear to require a re-rip.

Why don't you tell us the Title and Region of the DVD? Perhaps it's a title that has no special copy protection requiring the creation of a PSL file...

Hi,
I backed up a few movies in the last few days and now I can't remember which title was the one the above error warning came on. Apparently, it backed up OK in the end so I forgot about it. Maybe part of my problem is I don't understand what a PSL file is or what it does.

I am trying to backup a brand spanking new never before played DVD now. It is not a movie. It is an instructional DVD, single layer, and will need no compression.

I had to try it several times. RipIt4Me mostly said the PSL file didn't import. Then it did, but the DVDD log reads...

! 08:17:39 Protected Sectors List Imported Successfully!
! 08:17:39 13 areas have been marked as 'suspect'.
! 08:17:39 Dummy sectors will be inserted where necessary.

with the exclamation marks in yellow triangles, which indicate a problem!

I don't know if it will show up or play in DVDShrink yet.

@TomBrooklyn

Hi!with the exclamation marks in yellow triangles, which indicate a problem! After all these years of you using DVD Decrypter, you should already know that those are cautionary advices that indicate only that there MAY be (not "are") problems.

I don't know if it will show up or play in DVDShrink yet. Now that it's 6 hours later, how did it work out?

Hi,
The DVD ripped.

The Main Movie plays in DVD Shrink. It looks like it will play all the way through as I can move the slider to any position and it plays at that spot.

There is a Menu that is nothing more than a static screen with six selections. The center third from top to bottom was missing, but when I expanded the Menu in Shrink, even though it only had one VTS, the menu looks OK.

Same thing with Extras. There is only one VTS. It is the FBI warning. At first it's missing center part. Open it and it looks OK.

I burned it to DVD-R with ImgBrn. Burned OK, but showed an error on Verify right near the front.

Physically, the disk looks like it burned with big skips. The disk burned parts look like the rings of Saturn with various sized gaps.

It didn't play in a standalone.

I wonder if a DVD Shrink Backup will burn it. I started one of those now on a DVD-RW.

It's a Protected Sector List which informs the ripping software which sectors are protected by some form of corruption and should therefore be bypassed.

The triangles don't necessarily indicate a problem, just something that the program thinks you should be made aware of.

Hi Wombler,

Corruption? That sounds like a bad thing. Can you elaborate?

PS: In the meantime, I ordered a new DVD burner. The two I have are about 3-5 years old and I suspect they're shaky. $24 from NewEgg Delivered and maybe that will solve some problems. My drives have not been reading older DVDs very well anyway.

It's part of the copy protection. The manufacturers insert corrupted data on the disc an effort to thwart the ripping software.

The PSL file identifies these areas (which are not required and can't be played by a standalone DVD player) and replaces the corrupt sectors with dummy data.
