Iv'e got a rip i did with dvdshrink a while back and it gets blockey in fast moving scenes.

So i was wondering if i could improve the quality by rencoding with cce sp 4 or 5 passes? and a filter??

You'll see a significant improvement just by using CCE as opposed to a transcoder. I'd suggest you only do 2 or 3 passes, but check "Enable Bitrate Redistribution" on the MODE menu. It will likely allocate more bits to that segment.

I'm sure you already know this, but I'll say it anyway. You have to start with the original, don't try to improve on a disc that already has problems.

The thing is i don't have the original with me as its back home.
So theres no point trying to rencode and improve this blocky rip i have on my hardrive right now?

Also you said only do 2 or 3 passes does this remain when encoding a dvd9 6.7gb down to a dvd5 4.3gb? as i have been doin 4 or 5 passes

Once it's blocky -- it's pretty much blocky for good. There may be an antiblocking playback algorithm or a filter that can be used -- but they will typically just trade off blockiness for bluriness.

On you second question: The quality pretty much maxes out at 3 passes -- and the difference between 2 and 3 is very slight. All the additional passes (in MHO) are just hype.
