View Full Version : Skip to menu and bypass previews?

I had used RipIt4Me for decrypting until its demise back in April. I really liked a feature it had which allowed the disc created to jump to the DVD menu (thus bypassing the previews). While I still would like extras, I want to skip the previews. I didn't notice such a function on DVD RB Pro and my current ripping program of choice (DVDFab Free) does not offer this skip feature. I was wondering if DVD RB Pro have this feature already (and I'm just too blind to find it) and if not, if it would be possible to incorporate it into the program?
Sorry if this has already be discussed, but I didn't find it in the search function.

You can get the same effect by blanking them with the segment editor.

I think there is a difference. Sometimes a DVD9 comes littered with preview after preview, warning after warning before the main menu. If you simply blank them out, there is still a significant pause as the commands jump to all the blank cells before finally reaching the main menu. Most of the time the pause is small, but sometimes it it can be quite long and darn annoying.
Ripit4me successfully implemented this feature which, I believe, actually changes the first play command to go directly to the first menu screen that contains buttons. I used to think this feature was extremely helpful on certain discs, although now I use DVDremake to do that myself.

There is a .5 second blank that replaces it. So if there are four trailers replaced you'd see a 2 second pause. That's really not a lot. But I will take a look at it.

Use the Jump2PGC feature of PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html). Like your former ripper, it preserves all registers with their proper values, which many other apps offering the "Jump to" feature do not do.
Guide on site.

Thanks. I have the ability to create a disc that will jump to the DVD menu, but it involves a few steps. I can rip the movie, repackage it without compression, mount the ISO file, re-rip using Ripit4Me, then re-encode. I'm simply trying to reduce the steps and number of programs used.
Thanks for the replies.

I don't understand why you need to rip the movie twice or encode it twice. Rip the DVD and do what you want with it, compress it then burn it. Could not be easier :)

The first round of DVD rip is for decrypting which doesn't allow for the preview skip (on newer DVD's). I'm not actually encoding when I create the first ISO since there is no compression. The second is performed with RipIt4Me which does allow for the preview skip. I used RipIt4Me on my older DVD's which is only a two program / step process. Since it demise, RipIt4Me can't handle my newer DVD's and so I can't use its DVD preview skip to DVD menu function.

Once ripped, simply use the PgcEdit function I explained earlier. There's no need to do anything else. Then off to DVDRB. You can even do this procedure AFTER you have run this thru DVDRB.

Thanks. This program intimidated me once before. I looked at the function that you mentioned. Seems easy enough. I'll give it a try. Sounds like it will save me some time. Thanks again.

I tried pgcedit and like before, my ignorance limited its success. I don't know which value to alter to get it to jump to the DVD menu. Further, the program needs to scan the files which actually doesn't save much more time (do I need to have the files scanned?). Could someone direct me to the value that I need to change to get the preview skip? Thanks.

Here is blutach's guide. Easier to do even than it looks:

Actually, that guide has been updated to account for the changed menus in PgcEdit since version 5.6
Here's the latest guide:

It worked! Thanks. I noticed that the playback was a bit choppy, but I think that might have to do with the decrypting. Not sure. I can't see how pgcedit would alter video files the way I'm using it. While this prevents me from re-ripping the disc, it would still be easier if that function was available as a check off on DVD-RB or on DVDFab Free. If not, I still have an easier way to do it. Thanks again.

It doesn't! It only changes the commands in the IFOs. If playback is bad, it's a bad rip/bad encode/bad burn.

I know that PgcEdit can be used for what I was asking for, but I was wondering if this feature is still being considered for implementation on DVD-RB? Thanks.

Why not use RipIt4me still? I have been able to back up all my latest DVD's without a problem (region 2)

Actually, I used RI4M for Ratatouille and this function didn't work. It can not trace the menu and it got me thinking about this thread. Someday, RI4M may not be able to rip one of my newer DVD's and I would like to be able to have this feature automated on another program I use to back things up. From some posts I have read, there is one type of encryption RI4M can not handle. One can imagine that more will arrive. While other DVD decryption programs will inevitably work around the newer encryptions, RI4M, sadly, will not. DVD-RB seems like the next logical place to have this feature since its remain the constant in my DVD backup experience. I tried to use PgcEdit for Ratatouille when RI4M did not handle the jump to menu function, but I ran into a brick wall (I posted this on the decryption forum).

DVDRB does not have the functionality of an IFO editor. It does not trace thru commands and simulate button presses. This is not its function and one would question why jdobbs would implement a function which duplicates one which works perfectly well in another program.

While not a free application, Slysoft's AnyDVD (http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html) has the ability to "skip to menu" or "skip to feature." You might look into it.

Nashcity says he uses DVDRemake for this function. As I have DVDRemake Pro and looked for this function without success, can someone direct me to the instructions?

True. I wouldn't want him to waste his time. He said he may look into it and if it isn't hard to do, it would be nice when I have to use another program to decrypt. Still, I thought I might ask.

There isn't actually a function. You have to look at the commands in "First Play" and adjust it to jump straight to the Root Menu (in most cases) of the appropriate VTS. Sometimes this is incredibly simple, sometimes it takes a little "tracking".

In any event, such a simplistic method is usually incorrect as critical registers are not set.

Its looks like the new DVDFab HD Decrypter may have this function built in when ripping
"- New: Added option "Change DVD playback order" in "Full Disc" mode.
You can choose "Jump to first menu when disc inserted" or "Jump to main title when disc inserted".
- New: Added option "Remove annoying PGCs (like FBI warnings)" in "Full Disc" mode."
If anyone tests it, let us know!
