Hi every1!! I am new here and I was looking at meGUI and I was pretty impressed with itz functionalities. Right now I'm concentrating on audio encoding rather transcoding from AC3 (DVD). However when using ND-AAC encoder, i noticed that there is no option for using 2-pass encoding. But if were to use autoencode, there is an option that can be changed to incroporate 2-pass (Under Settings -> Extra config). But just doing audio on its own doesnt have the feature. Any suggestions. BTW I'm trying to achieve a target of 224 kbps AAC-LC (5.1). Also i was wondering if i used VBR, is there any way i can make sure the target bitrate doesnt cross 224. Thanks in advance.

PS. i had a look at SNG 1.0 ... that was good too. I wanted to stick to meGUI coz it had a lot more features (video, audio, subtitles, etc).

Nero's 2pass encoding is nothing than usual marketing trick :). But that isn't reason why MeGUI (and other app's not support it), in 2pass mode, input must be real wav file, and can't be connected direct into chain with for example AC3 decoder. Source, AC3 in you way must be first decomresed to wav, and then encoded to AAC. Realy 2pass will not improve your quality on that bitrate
So i suggest you to go round 2pass, and use normal ABR or VBR, in case VBR, you can't predict output filesize. Aslo better to use 250+kbps for encoding in LC-AAC, because is HE-AAC much better in range up to 250kbps but only for mulitchannel audio(5.1)

Ok I wont worry about 2-pass :). But AFAIK HE-AAC is good for 128 kbps or less (atleast thats what I had read in a lot of places hence my reason for choosing AAC-LC in the first place). Now I've to reconsider that option. Were there any tests to confirm this ? Then again i couldnt find much comparisons for multichannel encoding/transcoding for any codec.

But AFAIK HE-AAC is good for 128 kbps or less Yes, but that is rule for stereo, not for multichannel ;).

And here is a bug in nero encoder (all versions) when used 2pass and 5.1 http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=56740, confirmed by developers

I think it is the best way to let the encoder decide what to use, LC, HE, SBR,... just choose your Quality settings, for stereo I use around 40 - 50 and for mutlichannel like 5.1 you can go down to 30 - 35, without really hearing a difference, because the output is a mixture of 6 channels.
