Laely I've noticed several Flask related issues being posted in the Audio, Divx3 and Divx4 forums. I say this while biting my tongue but am wondering if we should have a Flask section like we have for Gknot. I personally don't use the software for obvious reasons but apparently all newbies start with it now-a-days.
Just a nasty thought:)

Aghhhh! Flask! No, no, no, no. People will just have to learn a better way to backup their DVDs.

I hear ya. We need to convert the newbies to Gknot, it's really not that hard if you ask me.

I thought we already had a flask forum.
my idea is to actually get rid of the flask forum, and get rid of the software on doom9's server too.
lest face it, gknot isn't actually harder to use than flask.
it might look like it, but its not.
and flask is extremely difficult to get working without crashing.
even using divx 4 you can get much better results using gknot than you can using flask.
ok, so my idea is a little over the edge, after all, ppl are free to use whichever soft they like, but I just hate to see ppl waste their time and proc cycles on somehting like that.
ok, enough rambling today, I will now go back to my corner.

you all read my end of the year postings, didn't you? Once GKnot integrates dvd2avi seamlessly and does the same to vobsub so that you can set up a rip as easy as you would in Flask I'll be making a move to convert the remaining users to it but atm the tool isn't quite ready yet. You can't ask people who are unable to use a multitude of tools to start using something that is harder to use.. it must be at least as easy.. not only better.

Flask is great! Ive used it for ~50 titles. Use xvid, mp3, ac3 depending on the movie. 1 or 2 cds. easy as. Gknot is good but flask only takes about 5min of my time, start it up and let in run. Gknot requires more contact time, so use if you want, but i dont.
Flask is good for me, never crashes if you treat it good.
Its not that i cant use a magnitude of tools, cause i can, i dont want to!

In my opinion it's the wrong way to keep out other programms than Gknot.
Surely , Flask isn't as good as Gknot but every one should decide for hisself.
But what is with other programs ?
Now we're confronted whith many other new good programms like DVX,DivX 5 Enc, DVDtoOGM which support new stuff like Ogg/OGM/DivX5.03/Xvid...
Well, let me first say that I use and love Gknot.
But i know that Gknot is the baby of this great HP and i know that Gknot will be modified now by lenox for Xvid/DivX 5.04 and I hope soon for OGM.
But that's not the point.
The new tools are really good and also well represented by their authors in the Doom9-forum and they try to convince the Doom9ers from their hard work. Further, these guys give support for the community and react to the demand of the users for /DivX5/Xvid/OGM/Ogg/.srt- support, and much earlier than the new "Gknot open source development".
What I mean is why isn't there an own topic which is for new programms?
Now there are two forums called Gknot& Gknot development.
All other programms than Gknot are just smashed to one of these two Gknot-forums.
I think it's very hard for the new authors.
What happens: First time posted-->People are cautios because they want the same quality as with Gknot --> The tool'll be, of course, compared with Gknot(because it's in the Gknot forum)--> What follows is a post, called "Gknot vs DVX" with about 122 posts.
An own topic for new stuff would push the new tools, I think.
Look, for example to the audio forum. It's not called BeSweet or HeadAC3he...it's called "Audio encoding"
I hope you get my point!
I don't want to offend...I'm just a little surprised about how it is at the moment.

Yes I read the first 3 posts but then I overlooked this thread...oops;)
However my point is:
Look at all other forums(audio,AVI &DVD Players....) Here we can see main topics-headliner.
I don't say that Doom9 doesn't want or doesn't support the other programms.
I just mean that these programms could be better supported in this forum...these programs are for the community and should not be in competition. It should be more a matter of taste which tool somebody uses and, I think, everybody here can see which of these advanced tools he/she likes most.
Therefore I believe it's not optimal to support e.g DVDtoOGM related things in a forum that is called "Gordian Knot...Everthing about Gknot". Furthermore I think it's extremely difficult for all other programms to exist beside Gknot in this constilation.
