Hi, I do some tv-ripping every once in a while, using DivX3.1 and Virtualdub. I usually rip straight to DivX, encoding the sound to mp3 afterwards. I dualboot with WinMe (where I do the ripping) and WinXP, I've noticed my videos encodec with 3.1 play upside down in XP. So I was wondering, is it time to start using DivX4, or is there another solution? The videos don't play upside down in WinME of course. I got one more question: I haven't installed DivX4 yet, when installing, should I choose "use DivX4 to play DivX3.1 content"?
I've heard that people who are using DivX4 to play DivX3.1 content
and are running WinXP don't get "my" (DivX3.1) videos upside down.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Trying to use the DivX 4 decoder for DivX 3.1 content could help. Also, make sure you have the latest version of your video drivers.

Try searching the internet for a way to flip YUV video during playback through DirectX. There may be a registry key or setting that enables it.
Also, some video players like Sasami2k can flip the video:

I've heard from some people that DivX 4 is good for capture, so why not try it out?

In other words, using the DivX4 codec to play DivX3.11 content won't result in worse quality? (compared to using the 3.11 codec to play 3.11 content)

I haven't really tested if the quality is any worse, but I haven't been able to see a difference. There have been bugs in DivX 4's decoder, but they never affected me. It's also possible that the DivX 4 codec will produce a better image if your video could use additional post-processing.
