I have an LG DR6621W DVD Recorder cum player

Recently, it stops reading my DVD discs...i insert brand new DVD-RW and it says 'Unknown dics, pls check dics again'

I also brunt movies into DVD format and the player does not read them too, giving the above message.

How can i record programs when the player does not read brand new discs?

do i have to format them first? if so, how?

Did you change your brand of DVD's ?
Does it still work with your older DVD's ?

If both answers are "NO" I think it's time for a new burner.

Perhapse you can try to update your LG firmware.

Goodluck.

This is a classic symptom of a DVD laser going bad. VCD and anything on CD type media are read by a different laser, which is why they would work and DVD would not with a problem with the DVD laser. You can't record programs if the DVD laser is not working. Your choices are to either repair the player, assuming it is still under warranty or you have some sort of extended store warranty that will give you a replacement, or to throw it away and buy a new one. I don't recommend paying for a repair as that's likely to cost over $100.

Having said that and having re-read your posts, you did not specifically say that you tried to play commercial DVDs in the player. Try to play some DVD in the player that is NOT something burnt to DVD+R/W or DVD-R/W but a commercial DVD. If it plays, your laser should be OK and you have other issues, most likely the player not liking your media.

Hi!

Before buying a new one, you might want to try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your present unit. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US...

you may try to format it first. or maybe some line in the burner has some problem.
