Hello everyone,

Ik know this questions may seem basic for some of you, but i cant figure them out, so please bear with me ;)

In front of me lies a totally butchered DVD5 of a concert. The person that encoded it made a couple of mistakes, which include: leaving 2ch LPCM, AC3 5.1 and DTS (altogether almost 2GB) on the disk instead of stripping 1 or more, and leaving all the extras on the disk (over an hour). If you think that the concert lasts 2 hours, you can get a picture of the quality of the video.

I have a little bit experience with filters (but not in combination with DVD-RB), and which ones to use in which circumstances, so i decided to go with
degrainmedian(mode=2)
deblock(quant=45)
LimitedSharpenFaster(strength=150)

I actually wanted to go with mpeg2source(cpu=6), but it seems you have to link that to each d2v file seperately, so that means editing all the 29 avs files in my work folder... is there a better way to do that? Because this didnt work, and i didnt felt like editing all the seperate files, i went with the deblock filter.

ok, here comes the actual problem: I tried HC encoder (its my favourite for its speed, quality and multi process support), but the only thing that i get is this:
[15:26:17] Phase II ENCODING started
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 0
-- V01000000001001 empty .M2V, retrying.
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 0
-- V01000000001001 empty .M2V, retrying.
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 0
-- Zero length .M2V file for V01000000001001.
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 1
-- V01000100001002 empty .M2V, retrying.
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 1
-- V01000100001002 empty .M2V, retrying.
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 1
-- Zero length .M2V file for V01000100001002.
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 2
-- V01000200001003 empty .M2V, retrying.
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 2
-- V01000200001003 empty .M2V, retrying.
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 2
-- Zero length .M2V file for V01000200001003.
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 3
-- V01000300001004 empty .M2V, retrying.
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 3
-- V01000300001004 empty .M2V, retrying.
- Creating M2V for VTS_01 segment 3
-- Zero length .M2V file for V01000300001004.
and so on, and so on...

Now, when i switch to CCE, everything goes well, but with 2 passes, it takes over 14 hours to complete the encoding (thanks to the filters, no mistaking about that)

so the first questing is: does anyone know what can cause this empty M2V file error?

now i have a second small question: If i have a DVD5 source, and i run those filters on it. does it matter if i use a low quality encoder, or does it affect my output positively if i use a high quality encoder like CCE 6+ passes? I have never used any other encoder outside HC at best quality and CCE at normally at least 6 passes (but now at 2 passes because i wanted a "fast" test).
Can anyone advice me which encoder to use under these circumstances (butchered DVD5 as a source)?

some technical info:
- DVD-RB v1.26.0
- AVISYNTH 2.5.7.0
- HC v0.21.0.0
- CCE 2.70.2.11
CPU Type DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2000 MHz (10 x 200) 3800+
CPU Aanduiding Manchester
Instructieset x86, x86-64, MMX, 3DNow!, SSE, SSE2, SSE3
stock speed. no OC

thanks for your time!

EDIT: maybe some additional usefull info:
- Ive already tries to run HC encoder in single process mode.
- After the prepare phase with HC encoder chosen, i can go to preview/edit, and i can see there the video (very slow where it normally goes at normal speed, so i guess the filters are applied there). I see no error message for the scripts there (thats what i got my first couple of tries)

it seems that it has something to do with loading scripts that are already in the avisynth folder another time from another location.
What i dont get is why the HC encoder has trouble with that, and why CCE continues...
