This is bizarre... I am using mencoder to encode video with the x264 codec. If I use mplayer or vlc to play the video, everything looks fine, but if I use xine, then I see bright green blocks show up in the video. It seems to happen especially during high motion scenes. Has anybody seen this before?

Which version of xine? It was a bug, but it's already fixed, can't remember in which version. Simply upgrade to the latest (1.1.7) and you should be fine.

I've got version 1.1.4, which is included in Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn). I'll see if I can't find an upgraded package, or just compile the latest version. Thanks!

Upgrading to the latest xine-lib and xine-ui don't seem to have made a difference... filed a bug report with xine.

Weird. The bug was fixed for sure (at least for the videos where I was seeing it). How did you upgrade? Did you find packages or did you compile yourself? If you compiled yourself, then maybe you have two xine-libs installed (one in /usr and one in /usr/local) and you're still using the old one.

I actually removed the libxine1 (v. 1.1.4) and xine-ui packages that came with Ubuntu, and compiled the 1.1.7 version of libxine and the 0.99.5 version of xine-ui. It didn't seem to make a difference.
The only bug I saw in the sourceforge tracker related to this issue was closed by the same person who opened it, with no explanation other than "works for me now." And there's nothing in the xine-lib changelog that refers to the issue, either.
