Hi. I've recently discovered DVD rebuilder, so far i've used it for a couple of backups and i'm liking it, anyway i have a few enquiries regarding the differences and features of the Free/Pro versions:

Am i missing anything by only using the free version? so far my backup method was using Shrink to strip the DVD from everything except the movie and the audio tracks needed. Then using Shrink again to transcode the files to fit in a DVD5.

Now i've read quite a bit about how reencoding is better than transcoding so now i'd like to use Rebuilder + CCE or HC to the stripped movie, instead of transcoding it.

I understand that the pay version has more features such as segment editing, etc, but do you think that those features will be useful to me?

One od the features of the Pro version that intrigues me the most is the custom matrix selection, do this feature helps getting improving the video quality?

Sorry for my n00bness :D

If you're using Shrink to strip out the unwanted material, you can still do that, but target for no compression / DVD-9 and feed the resulting output through Rebuilder.

With the free version, you only have the choice of doing a full backup, no chance to strip any unwanted menus, extras, etc... You can, however, remove audio, directors comments & subtitles. I'm not sure about extra VTS's though.

Matrices are a subjective thing. Search through here and you'll find that some swear by them, others could care less. Experimentation and your eyes are key.

If you're already using DVD Rebuilder free and find it useful, $30 for the Pro version is a mere pittance.

Thanks for the response

Those are exactly my intentions, i was asking more to understand if the Pro version is a little overkill for my simple needs..

That depends on what you eventually intend to do, there is a lot more the pro version can do compared to the free version apart from matrices, multiple core support, a lot more control over it, for the donation its well worth it as you get plenty of support on here as well

There have been a whole lot of bugfixes and changes from the free version. In my opinion for what you going to do DVDrb pro is the right choice. Also a good idea would to be to checkout vobblanker for blanking out extras, as I find the output is more compatible with DVDrb

DVD Rebuilder is definitely worth the price. Jdobbs works very hard on it and they output from DVDRB is just stunning; I think DVD Rebuilder Pro is the way to go. It's very inexpensive.

And if you're from a country that has Euro as the currency, the price is even cheaper nowadays. It is a good time to buy stuff that is charged in dollards :)
